This boat is 13' long, 48" bottom width and is 60" at the beam. Marine plywood construction glued and screwed to mahogany ribs and cedar keelsons. The plan was thirty years old and drift boat designs and options have changed a lot since then.
After I began building the boat I realized that it was not going to work for me the way I wanted it to perform. It does not have a lot of rocker to it and has is 30" wide at the transom. Knowing that it would not manuver well compared to modern drifters.
I re-inforced the transom and rear seating arraingment. I have mounted a mid 1980's 15HP Evinrude on the boat. First trip out was to the Nisqually can and I bonked a King.
I trailered it to Sekiu last fall with success. Haveing never drifted any I am just a chicken $hit when it comes to putting it in a river.
I feel that the boat is ideal for bays, estuarys, and the upcomming trout season.
It rows really nice with one person and just seems to sit a bit low in the ass end with two. But then again me and the one friend I have left are heavy weights
The bottom (5/8") and all seams are fiberglassed. The woodwork is soaking up the oil which results in a deep rich finish. It has removable floorboards painted with gray deckpaint and sand added for non skid surface.
Made my own oars too. They work darn good. She still needs some of those nice heavy duting bronze oarlocks tho.
I know that I could let the whole package go for less than 600 raffle tix.
