hey folks, i am in the process of spucing up a 1958 14 ft crestliner boat, so far I have stripped off the 6 or so coats of paint and am painting a mettalic blue strip down the top, leaving the underside bare aluminum. the interior will be painted with either bedliner or some sort of texture paint. I am removing the current wood bench seats and replacing with new oak or mahogany marine plywood seats. the transom will also be faced with new wood. I have a 1968 35 horsepower merc that has supposedly been rebuilt in the last 4-5 years to put on the back and I will be placing pole holders liberally throughout the boat. while keepign in mind that this is a old (very well built) boat, what do some of you this this is worth for the boat, trailer and motor? the motor runs awesome, and the trailer is in nice shape with very minimal surface rust ( which I may fix as well) looking for any input anyone has.

Hmmm...a 35 hp. on a 14 ft. Crestliner?

Me thinks its too much HP for that little hull. Could be wrong, but that's a lot of ponies for so light and short a boat with so little draft.

Considering the age of the hull (and that it has rivets), the age of the motor, as well as the uncertainty of its internal condition (is it rebuilt, or not?) I would not go for spending much for it myself.

You might do better selling that engine on its own, and the hull with a set of oars as a small lake boat.

Were it mine, I would put a 9.9 or at most a 15 hp. on it and use it on the lakes as a Kokanee killer.

My 2 cents..:-)

Mike

I got a couple more coats of paint on it yesterday and got the paper off today, it doesn't look like a brand new boat, but it looks alot better than it did. I was reading a little on the crestliner commodore and it looks like from what I could tell that they were rated for a 35 horse motor the transom has 4 thick gussets and I can't even budge it so I think it will work out pretty good.
