Yeah trials and lawyers and courts and all that crap. The govt should just be able to execute whomever they want.

That's not necessarily a bad thing. Private student loans were pretty free flowing in my college days and there really wasn't anything in place to insure they were really spent on education.

I have never really been an Obama supporter.

He is an amazing speaker and knows how to rally a reaction. It was actually fun to watch and I enjoyed the digs he put in. It was pretty impressive to hear him demand the bills be on his desk by a certain date. Wielding the authority.

If he can stick to his guns the man could accomplish some great things for our country.

Enemny combatants should be tried in military courts, not in our courts of law.

Irie, just a question and a comment for you ..... since when does an enemy combatant ( Even President Obama has said we are at "war" with Al-Queda) have ANY constitutional rights let alone the right to due process?

And as far as your comment about President Bush not having minorities in his administration, he did in fact have the first black secretary of state (Colin Powell) and the first female (who also happened to be black) secretary of state in Condeleeza Rice. Alberto Gonzalez was also the first minority to be Attorney General. Before Bush took office, no minority had EVER (not even in the Clinton Admin.) occupied any of the four highest-profile Cabinet positions -- attorney general and the secretaries of the Defense, State and Treasury departments.

Grave Breaches (of the Geneva Conventions)
Not all violations of the treaty are treated equally. The most serious crimes are termed grave breaches, and provide a legal definition of a war crime. Grave breaches of the Third and Fourth Geneva Conventions include the following acts if committed against a person protected by the convention:

willful killing, torture or inhuman treatment, including biological experiments
willfully causing great suffering or serious injury to body or health
compelling one to serve in the forces of a hostile power
willfully depriving one of the right to a fair trial. (BINGO)
Also considered grave breaches of the Fourth Geneva Convention are the following:

taking of hostages
extensive destruction and appropriation of property not justified by military necessity and carried out unlawfully and wantonly
unlawful deportation, transfer, or confinement.[8]
Nations who are party to these treaties must enact and enforce legislation penalizing any of these crimes.[9] Nations are also obligated to search for persons alleged to commit these crimes, or ordered them to be committed, and to bring them to trial regardless of their nationality and regardless of the place where the crimes took place.

The principle of universal jurisdiction also applies to the enforcement of grave breaches. Toward this end, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia were established by the United Nations to prosecute alleged violations.

That would be for persons wearing a uniform of their army!

Enemy combatants are considered no different, as far as the Geneva convention is concerned, as a spy. Most spies, when caught, are shot on site during times of war. Do you suggest we put foreign spies thru domestic courts?

The United States Constitution protects American Citizens only!!!

Spies and terrorists have no protection under the Geneva Convention or the Constitution.

Now that Obama and the D's are in power when will they roll back all those evil laws that destroyed your "freedom this" and "liberty that!"

Still waiting-

When Thomas Jefferson sent the US Marine Corps after the Barbary Pirates did we bring them to US shores so they could go to a lower Manhatten Court or did they kill the sons a bitches!

I'm not necessarily anti liberal (I agree with some domestic policies) but the average liberals understanding of history is a freaking joke!!!!!

"Enemy combatants are considered no different, as far as the Geneva convention is concerned, as a spy."

You need a court of law to determine which label to give them not some politician who chooses the most convenient label which was specifically in order to skirt the Geneva Convention.

Even spies have their day in court.

Don't you ever go fishing? All I see are your posts all over this forum spewing your amazing fishing "knowledge." I need not even ask that question -- I already know the answer... you aren't fishing because you live in San Francisco. Typical Californian...

Don't you have anything better to do than frequent a FISHING forum?
