Need to find a local (Woodinville/Snohomish) exhaust shop. My 05 F-150 has a bad catalytic converter and the dealer is quoting me $1,300. Looking to find a shop to get a better price (and quality work). Thanks

Bryon,
Try Woodinville Auto Repair right up the hill from my house by AM/PM. Norm is a fisherman and is very fair. Anything I can't do myself goes to his shop and they can typically turn you around in 24-48 hours.

If you are getting the check engine code PO171 or PO174 do a Google search and it will tell you how to fix it. It is usually rectified by cleaning the MAP sensor, a vacuum leak of some kind or a fuel filter that needs replaced. I would try that first... I went through the same deal with a 1998 Explorer, in fact I replaced both cat converters and a month or so later had the same check engine codes again. I did the Google search, bought some electrical cleaner and cleaned the MAP sensor. I have not had the check engine light come back and have almost 1500 miles on it since plus it runs a bunch smoother.

Those guys are absolutely the best around!! i have took quite a few rigs to them. quality work forsure, but they charged quite a bit more. the one thing i really like about them though, is that they will go out of the way to get your setup how you want it if you have something specific you want done. worth the extra $$$ imo, its gets done right the first time.

How many miles are on the truck?
Catalytic Converters should be covered under an 8 yr, 80,000 mile federal emmisions warranty.

DL,
Don't see why you are jumping on Boone, he offered a suggestion from his experience which may or not work for FR. For less than $10 it might be worth a try.

Wow deerlick you really need to get a life... all I offered was a suggestion for him to check out, never stated that for him to fix his problem that was all he had to do. I in fact had both of those codes, had $800 worth of service done at a Ford dealership... ie a 150K service check. The codes were cleared but the dealership told me that the cat on bank 2 had "insufficient flow" and the cost to fix it was like $700 for one side. They also told me the code would return. When it did return I took it to a muffler shop for the cat to be replaced and had both sides done to the tune of $600 since I did not desire to have car payments again. 30 days later the codes came back again, I did a little research by google to see if there was info on the codes and came up with that. I can be a pretty decent back yard mechanic if I think I can save some $$$. If fact the $6 I spent on the electrical cleaner seems to be a pretty good investment so far as the code has been gone now for some 1500 miles. I will be sure to incorporate the cleaner into the maintenance I do when the air filter is replaced each time.
