Looking for some local families that may be interested in buying fresh eggs.

Chicken are "free range" you know bug/weed eaters they do eat commercial layer crumble as well as scratch (wheat/corn mix).

3.00 a dozen

Assorted colors (eggs are brown, bluegreen and white) no bantam eggs

Poulsbo Silverdale Kingston

Currently producing 10+ dozen a week

I will take a dozen a week if you can figure out how we can do the egg $$$ transfer.

Jason's eggs are a little out of my geographical area, but if you live close enough to buy from him, you'll learn what a really fresh egg is.

We get ours from a family here in Monroe, so Dave, I might be able to help you if you are ever home and delivery from Poulsbo is not manageable.

But believe me folks, although I've never eaten one of the eggs Jason's laying hens are producing, I would expect they are like the ones we get in Monroe from our friends.

They are so fresh, the yolk stands up and salutes, not flop like store bought eggs.

If you are close enough to take him up on his offer, you won't regret it.

Brewer,

If you are lurking, and make a wise-azz remark, it is OK, I know you just like to stir the pot.

How many chickens do you have that produce 10 dozen per week? Chickens are my next project.

Make sure to get a few meat birds. They will free range along with the layers. Taste alot better than store bought birds.

A good layer will lay one egg per day for perhaps 18 months once mature. Most chickens will stop laying during the winter months however, you can put a light in the coop to stimulate laying. (we don't, but we used too)

A very good basic chicken book is Chickens in Your Backyard

To answer your question- we have 28 with 18 of them laying daily. In the next few weeks I expect to be overwhelmed with eggs.

The chickens have been a nice addation, there are hundreds of varities. Next year, we plan on doing some heritage turkeys.

General question. After they are done laying their eggs (18 months) do they taste good, like on the grill, or do the ones that lay eggs, not taste as good as other chickens?

We had chickens, ducks and geese growing up. They all got along and all good eggs. The geese are aggressive and keep most of the smaller varmits at bay.

Chickens lay eggs up to 3 years without a light in the winter they slow down, but I have a few birds that lay year round. Bardrocks are the best layers that I have found after trying alot of different birds. Laying hens are chicken soup after a couple years and new chicks take there place , now is the time to get chicks if your thinking of getting started Andy they take 6 to 9 months to start laying and their really isn't nothing like going out to the chicken coup in the morning and cooking breakfast. We usually keep 6 birds in a rotation getting 3 new chiks every 2 years and I havent bought a egg in 10 years!!!PEACE

The 18 months was a general statement- they will lay for years. I believe the one egg a day was the important part of the statement. (I remember this from a book)

On the plus side, you may get to see Bald Eagles, Sharp Shinned Hawks, Racoons, Possums, and Coyotes in your yard. These are all predators we have had at our house.
