Bushmills Vs. Jameson: it's the same company that makes both of them anyway. Pernod-Ricard owns both labels.

As I understand it, one is marketed to Protestants, and the other to Catholics...not sure which is which though.

I prefer Bushmills... has a tad bit o' peatier flavor that warms the soul..But I'm a Scotch guy myself.

Give me a good 12yr+ scotch over both anyday.

Always thought Irish whiskey was a bit of an odd duck.

But I liked it better than scotch, a lighter flavor, kinda delicate. Way different than any American or Canadian whiskey I've ever drank.

Of the two I preferred Jameson straight up, Bushmills I dumped in my coffee w/ Baileys

This is a tough one. Both are excellent, but I think I have decided Jameson is better straight-up, where Bushmills is hard to beat on the rocks. I am also a Scotch guy (or at least I was when I had money to spend on the good stuff), but Irish works just fine in a pinch.

Ech. Scotch.

I'd tell my tale o' Scotch but I'm not sure about the statutes of limitations.

Last night, Jameson was for the car bombs, and Bushmills was on the rocks.

Hadn't bought a fifth of liquor for awhile, and was mildly sticker-shocked the other day. McCallan is 51.95 and Balvanie is 49.95, and those were allegedly marked down a couple bucks each. Glad I don't drink much of this stuff; I'd go broke. Bushmills and Jameson are in the same bracket IRC. I'll stick with Full Sale Amber at $12 or $13 a half-rack and $6-11 a night for wine. It's bad enough already when I go to the store and alcohol accounts for 75% of the grocery budget. Serious drinkers must spend a bundle!

Or go to California. Redding Costco: Glenlivet 12 $22, Macallan 12 $32. They had Grey Goose, Absolut, Maker's Mark, Jack all for bargin prices. What you can't find there you go down the street to the Liquor Barn. Like a kid in a candy store! grin

Jeebus, scotch is one of the nastiest things on earth...it even smells bad, just like the inside of my waders after four days of eating mexican food and floating the west end streams in the rain...nasty stuff, that.

Beer does me just fine, whiskey might as well be cheap stuff, since I'm putting Coke in it...Wild Turkey if I have bourbon and extra $$, and that ain't too often.

Fish on...

Todd

Of the two, I'd pick the Jameson, though I prefer a nice single malt like Macallan above the Irish.
