Run again, old girl
Through fields of daisies and dandelions
With one ear cocked up and the other down
Listen, search, and sniff
Focus for the whiff of a mouse

Just like you used to do

Then pounce again with that spring in your legs
Send all your feet in the air
Arch your tail up over your back
And focus on that spot on the ground
Your eyes are clear and sharp

Just like they used to be

Land nose down deep in the grass and
Keep your butt up high
Wave that white flag
On the very tip of your tail
To show how happy you are

Just the way you used to be

Some day
Somewhere
We’ll hunt
And swim
And laugh together again
Until then, be a good girl

Just like you used to be

They just don't live as long as we do but I'm sure she felt she had a blessed life.

Sorry for your loss. I lost a fuzzy friend of almost 17yrs, 3years ago this month. It sucks. Looks like she had a good life. . . . .

The good memories are always with me.

Sorry to hear that Slab. Good memories help the healing. Its nice to have this place for some support. Always kind words (for pets) and good pet owners on PP.

Wow, 17 years. That right there shows you cared a lot for her. We lost our Maggie on the same day I tossed an old girlfriend out the door forever. I still miss that dog. The girl, not so much.

Sorry to hear about your loss. However tough as it is, she is back to doing what they do best, just being happy go lucky.

I just wanted to let you all know how appreciated your comments were.

Carrying that sweet old dog back to the truck to take her home from the vet's was tough. I had already dug her grave and I buried her on the opposite side of the cedar that I planted to mark where I buried my 15 1/2 year old dog that died 11 months ago. Hopefully they run together again.

From a poem I wrote many years ago....

And when all is done
Time will grind me to sand
And I will exist then
Only to those who cared.
