A colony of small black ants has set up shop in my mailbox. My guess is their old nest was disturbed because they are carrying eggs in their mandibles.

It beats getting a PSE bill, but I still want them gone.

Should I:

Spray poison & shop-vac

Get creative w/ the leafblower?

Garden hose?

WD40 & match?

Apparently leaving the door open for an hour works. I had my WD40 all set to go, too. frown

Wait until Halloween. Steal pumpkins from neighbors porches. Drive by at 60 and huck pumpkin out window at mailbox. Buy new mailbox.
Don't ask.

They might work good on Anthills but they suck at Ground Wasp Nests....at least as far as anhilating the wasps goes....oh sure they get agitated but I found out they are far from dead.

Fine ground corn meal also works. Little blighters carry it back to nest, eat it but can't digest the stuff. Problem solved.

laugh

One July 4th, my brother & I spent an afternoon blowing up an anthill with Black Cat firecrackers.

About midnight our very angry mother hauled us out of bed to go put out the roaring blaze which used to be the anthill & stump next to it.

rofl

Something else we used to do with yellowjacket ground nests was wait until late then dump a bucket of gas down the hole and light it. You could see them fly out with wings burning and drop to the ground.

When we were kids we used to oil the sides of a bowl and drop in a beetle or two and ants or black ants versus red ants. A Roman Gladiator Collesium. They do not like each other.

Go to the hardware store and get some Terro ant killer. It is a liquid, and they will eat it and feed it to the ones you don't see. It will kill the complete colony. Works great!

It's Earth Day.

Go eat some asparagus then pee on the mailbox.

1000 fire crackers split open, emptied into an empty roman candle tube, will also work. That will also flatten all other mailboxes on the post, disintegrate the 2x6 they all sit on, and shatter the 4x4 post that goes into the ground. Don't ask me how I know.

Fire.

I had a roman candle go dynamite all by itself.

I had planned to hold it but was called away and set it between two rocks at the last second as I was called away for a phone call.

Sent rock chips flying.

Last time I ever took part in a roman candle war.
