I don't know who owns the nuke or coal plants, but Glen Canyon and Hoover Dams are federal hydro projects operated by DOI. Ain't likely AZ can cut off power from those dams to CA or LA since they don't belong to AZ. Still, the whole matter seems pretty stupid.
The US has millions of illegal immigrants according to the best information available. Immigration is by definition a federal issue. The federal government has for decades side-stepped the issue, almost never dealing with it, and when it did, it simply granted amnesty. The federal gov't. passes laws and regulations that increase the burden of illegals on state and local governments, which is reason enough for those governments to be pissed at the feds. I don't know if the AZ immigration law is a good idea or a bad one. But I think AZ's decision to send a wake up call to the Beltway was overdue and a smart idea. Whether the fed will react constructively remains to be seen.
It seems like a lot of this problem would take care of itself if the gov't would jail those who employ illegal immigrants, curtailing the prime motive to enter the US illegally. Then getting the INS or whomever is the culpable agency to improve its efficiency so that their 5-year process for entry becomes a 5-week one, would lend some credence to the notion that the gov't. really can do some things right.
