I agree, that's when things typically get rolling.... But, looking back at my log book in 2001 we were into fish good at this point and water temps ranged 43-45...

I've got my fingers crossed....

IF Kevin Lund says 3/4 of a million springer's then it has to be so.

Until he changes his prediction......be patient .

Take the final run size prediction for springers from all the scientific "models" and subtract 20-40% to come up with an accurate number. Do that for all run size predictions except for pinks and you will be closer than the experts.

Not always true, look at how many summer runs we had over bonneville, or the LCR silvers, grays harbor silvers. The real prdiction was higher and was scaled back to 470k, if we get half of em fishin will be good. Gonna give it a go tommarrow.

The only thing I'm holding onto is the recent stocks being planted as the upriver returning fish are later returning fish.

I'll be after them again this next Thursday/Friday... We'll see...

My old memory has the upriver bound run peaking at Longview at April 15th on normal years. Usually the early fish are made up of lower tributary river salmon, especially Willamette springers. The early run has been hammered on pretty hard by the netters for 40 plus years, so it's been going down gradually. Low water conditions tend to make springers run earlier than "normal".

I've still got my hopes up for at least a strong run.

470,000 springers devided by 2=235,000 springers. If 200,000 springers come up the big C it will be some good fishin, just not by boat around the dam and that "BLOWS" big time.Hopefully the wind will produce this year.I'm not getting all gitty over the springers till it's spring and that's not until 3/20/10.Then it doesn't really kick in tell around the 10th-15th of April,so I'm chillin for a bit.Good luck,
STRIKE ZONE

Until then hit the river's for large winter steel in some nice weather.

They need to open the ladder on the washington side, alot of fish slide up that side and it is closed for repairs until the 15th march. So they are just sitting there becoming Lion fodder. I have hooked 8 landed five, Bonked 4 and have only been out five times and that was mainly to work on my duck blinds, So fishing was secondary. I didn't see that many fish on my card at this time last year while blind building. Last years totals were 0 for the same amount of trips.... Open the ladder and the numbers will rise.... I hope

Be tough to get an accurate count with the same number of sealions, and only one exit door.

OREGON AND WASHINGTON DEPARTMENTS OF FISH AND WILDLIFE

JOINT STAFF REPORT: WINTER FACT SHEET NO. 6
Columbia River Compact

March 8, 2010

Fisheries under Consideration:

Non-Indian Commercial Salmon

Bonneville Dam passage of Chinook between January 1 and March 5 totals 8 adults.

• Test fishing is expected to occur once a week throughout March to index Chinook and steelhead abundance and stock ratios.

• The first test fishery occurred on March 7 (5p-8p) in Zones 1-3. A total of 11 drifts resulted in 2 Chinook and 16 steelhead handled. Both Chinook were lower river stock (1 unmarked) and 4 of the 16 steelhead were unclipped.

• Test fishing data indicates that at this time it is not conducive to fish, considering the low Chinook to steelhead ratio (1 Chinook for 8 steelhead).

Hmmmm... Where they at?

Keith

Tanglenet Fishery I believe with observers on board. Still not a good sign of NO upriver springers caught that far down, common sense should tell us that there shouldn't be any mainstem fishing going on at the moment other than Tribs and Terminals. But thats not how we manage in the Northwest. help
