Well, that's one way to create a disincentive for employers hiring of illegal aliens. I liked my suggestion better; the one to fine and jail employers who hire illegal immigrants, which I believe would be faster and more effective at dissuading illegals from entering the US to work.

Turn them in. Had a guy apply for a loan the other day using a deceased person's SSN#. Loan fraud. Came in to sign docs, turns out he was illegal, with warrants, fraud, theft, attempted murder. Bu-bye.

Sorry. Fine employers, arrest the illegals, and treat them the same way Mexico treats their illegal immigrants.

You know there is a system in place to confirm identities it is called E-Verify. It is a national data base that matches up ID's and SS#s. Pass this and a drug test and I can hire you. I work in construction about 150 employees, large minority base. I am getting +/- 30% failure rate on E-verify..

Sorry for the gross generalization. I didn't mean an unqualified standard. If an employer is given documentation that appears real, then he's off the hook so long as he tries to ascertain an alien worker's legitimacy and isn't knowingly employing an illegal. It's the old style innocent until proven guilty and burden of proof concept. It still remains difficult for the gov't. to determine though, when illegals have documents that seem legit, but nothing's going to be perfect. Unless of course we simply annex Mexico, making it the 51 st state; then any Mexican who wants to work here would be legal. Still would be problematic with illegals from Central and South America and other countries.

Not really interested in most of the countries in Central and South America (and I married a Guatemalan) but Chile and Argentina are a different story. I suppose if I ever tried flats fishing for bones I might change my mind. I stay awake at night thinking If only we'd annexed BC way back when...but then we'd probably have it jacked up like we do here.

As far as hiring illegal immigrants, I put the blame squarely on the employers. Fine the heck out of them for every one they hire and soon illegals won't be able to find work and they'll have no incentive to move here, assuming you take away all the social service benefits as well

Before e-verify I had to go by the info they gave you and sometimes it is hard to tell if it is real or fake . The only way I would find out is when Social sec. admin. wrote back telling me the number and name did not match But I still paid the taxes , unemployment and L,I ,They could never collect on that,so that was a bonus for the Government . Now everyone has to go through E - Verify before I hire

Hey DS the other side of the coin seldom talked about? US boomers, retired Americans LIVING IN MEXICO. Love the place, along the West cost it is just great, in particular PV. Bit spendy but do central Mexico and great climate and decent fishing.

Huge US colony ( group ) around San Miguel & Ajijic Lake Chapala ( rated best climate in the world ) same with Costa Rica. Take 3k month and you can live very well and most of the major hospital doc's are UCLA trained and many US medicals fly in for specialized surgeries. Cost and quality amazing enough is far better than ours, the only catch in Mexico is you have insurance or money or you don't get admitted.

I am about two years out for going back down for good and I think I am heading for Belize ( it is an English language country with fishing that is unreal ) but it really has gotten to be a flood of retired Americans fleeing taxes and cost of living going South to Mexico.

By the time I get to retirement age, I'll probably be looking at moving to Haiti in order to make it work.

Dude, by that time mexico will be the 51st state, Puerto Rico the 52nd, Haiti\Dominican Republic the 53nd state and Cuba at 54th and Canada not far behind at 55... But, look at it this way; at least you will be able to work till you die... there will be plenty of jobs getting the infrastructure up to American standards...
