Gun rights extended by Supreme Court
[Let's hope Obama does not get a chance to name another Supreme Court Justice]

WASHINGTON -- The Supreme Court held Monday that the Constitution's Second Amendment restrains government's ability to significantly limit "the right to keep and bear arms," advancing a recent trend by the John Roberts-led bench to embrace gun rights.

By a narrow, 5-4 vote, the justices also signaled, however, that some limitations on the right could survive legal challenges.

Writing for the court in a case involving restrictive laws in Chicago and one of its suburbs, Justice Samuel Alito said that the Second Amendment right "applies equally to the federal government and the states."



The court was split along familiar ideological lines, with five conservative-moderate justices in favor of gun rights and four liberals opposed. Chief Justice Roberts voted with the majority.

SCOTUS keeps this up and the wingnuts are gonna lose one of their favorite red herrings.

Sad that our constitution is supported only by conservatives on the bench. Scary that some people can't even cross the isle to support our constitution. One single vote made the difference. So who exactly were the wingnuts????

The proper question is: who are the wingnuts. And if you have to ask that question, you've not been paying attention.

I see it as a very logical decision. The law of the land should be applied uniformly.

Pretty sad that it takes a 5-4 vote to settle what is a simple constitutional right.
Simple to understand the concept that the right to keep and bear arms belongs to the people as well as the government, but the dipsticks had to exercise their individual preferences instead of simply reflecting the constitution. Sooner or later that one vote will screw us all.

But not yet.

OK, we have the 2nd Amendment safe and sound.

Now to regain Amendments 4,5,6,7, & 8 lost thanks to the GOP's War on Rights.
