Well don't have a lot of use for TE but I 960 2/3 requirement to raise taxes, needs to be put back. One to force the R's to identify cuts rather than just raise hell. 2nd force the D's to do the the same AND deal with the state employees union. Both have to be done sooner or later.

Anyway link is to a wire service article http://www.washingtonstatewire.com/home/...tax_measure.htm

There is/was (don't know if it is still the law) a law in Oregon that intiatives voted on by the people automatically become a constitutional amendment. I don't know a lot about it, but to me it seems like a grand idea and the only way our lawmakers do what the people want them to do.
Might keep the little Gods from doing as they please. Maybe someone will put an initiative together someday that says, "YOU are our servants! DO what we say!"

The idea that voting out of office those that do their own thing takes too damn long, IMO.

The only initiatives I'd support would be

1) to require initiatives to require 2x the current number of signatures and outlaw non-resident & paid signature gatherers and require a 2/3rds voter majority to pass.
2) schit-can the office of Lt. Gov. (talk about wasting tax-payer's dollars!)
3) outlaw the use of WSP as private corporate security.
4) outlaw speed cams, red light cams, and speed traps
5) schit-can the WSLCB
6) outlaw all nets from WA waterways ('cept hand nets for landing fish)
7) shoot poachers on sight
8) amend the smoking ban so it doesn't apply to pipes & cigars
9) bring back lawn darts
10) set up poor farms to inter vagrants.

Maybe Ive had too much coffee.

maybe, but if you want the people to rule or at least have more influence, then requiring more signatures isnt the answer. It takes somewhere between 30-80k signatures to put something on the ballot in oregon, like banning gillnets.

70+ initiatives were introduced and about 9 made it to the ballot. That means about one of your preferences would make it to the ballot.

Not that many people will stand in front of a store all day, with a high failure rate. Those paid individuals are doing that all over the country.

are you in favor of paid gatherers?

with the amount of corporate influence on elections increasing do we really think paying people to act like concerned citizens is a good thing? either ban paid gatherers or make them wear a tag stating they are being paid to gather signatures. let me know that the loser outside of walmart is only pretending to want to destroy the government grover norquist style.

thumbs

I doubt many Washington Residents realize those dickheads pimping those Eyeman initiatives are flown in from L.A., NYC, & Chicago and making a buck or so a signature.

Imagine if there was an AWB initiative on the ballot and the backers used gatherers from Berkeley and Vermont. The wingnuts would be schitting their Depends and screaming bloody murder.
