maybe you should change your tune towards the cca and try to help them ?, i was thinking you could write a book and call it "fisheries politics and management for dummies" and donate about 9000 copies to them rofl

This is who is really pushing all the selective fishing ideas, and is funding the current projects. Its the great we give you more hatchery fish you give us your impacts so we can make more kilowatts trade. Always wondered why if CCA was so convinced that fishing was stopping recovery why they wouldn't just petition NMFS to lower the currently low impact rates. Of course that would be the last thing power generation would want..

For those who have been engaged in CR fish management issues over the past 15 years, dam operators and upper river navigation interests and irrigators have been saying for years, what CCA is now saying.
Which is harvest is the problem.

Really? Who at CCA said the harvest is THE PROBLEM?

There is a reason we have not moved the dial on recovery; it is the way we harvest - and continually over-harvest - our fish.

Every time I log into read one of these Seine Net or CCA type threads I literally want to vomit....

Makes me sick to my gut watching this train gain momentum.

For the life of me I still can't figure out why CCA and supporters would want to give more fish to the commercials at the sport fishermans expense....

I still think the states should concentrate on marking 100% of all hatchery salmon first then analyze what they truly have left and make educated decisions going from there...

The entire letter is a quote. Arguing over his choice of words, in one paragraph, with a few people want to take those words and apply them to only one situation or one river, is a waste of time.

http://ccapnw.org/WA_Position_Statements

No reason to write and adopt 8 positions, if "the problem is harvest."

the wdfw isn't working on lowering the amount of esa take they are working on lowering the release mortality rate.

Just imagine the commercials finding ways to catch their fish with little or no mortality, seems like a win all around for the native fish we have left. Will the commercials catch more, maybe but so will we.....

Habitat, spill and passage seem to be the key. Imagine that..

Some of you can't seem to figure out why the CCA is screwing over the sports fisherman. It's because they are not a SPORTFISHING advocacy group, they are a CONSERVATION group. What boggles my mind is why sports fishers are even in it because the CCA is targeting you as well as the gillnetters.

I have been avoiding these threads like the plague because when I do read them I get ill.

However, I think Todd has a damn good point here. There are some serious logical flaws to many of the accusations.

You are 100% correct about not being able to figure out why CCA is trying to screw over the sportangler.
And they are doing this in the name of conservation, so you'd expect them to be strongly aligned with other conservation oriented group that just doesn't seem to be the case.
You'd also expect that they would be using lobbyists that are strongly associated with conservation oriented issues, but again that's not the case.
Instead of having a stable full of conservation/environmental oriented lobbyists, CCA instead has individuals more closely aligned with big energy, big oil, dam operators, electric companies and aluminum producers.
If CCA wants to project an image on conservation, then I'd strongly suggest dumping the resource extraction specialists they now employ as lobbyists.

if anyone believes this post they are seriously missing the boat, the whole goal of the wdfw testing selective commercial gear is to lower the release mortality rate so they can catch more hatchery fish before the esa take limit is reached, as far as "will the commercials catch more, maybe but so will we ??, that is a joke because the main reason the wdfw is testing this gear is so the commercials can catch more fish, as far as "so will we" ?, how can we do that without more esa take ?
