You could always buy an AR-15 upper chambered in 7.62x39. That is my next upper. Olympic Arms in Olympia makes them. The reason the A-Team never killed anybody is because they used Mini-14's. The Mini-30 is about as accurate. We built two AR's on our kitchen table, one prints groups under an inch. The other shoots under 0.5". If you already own an AR, all you need to do is buy the upper and a few mags.

Not to detract from the subject at hand, but speaking of mags, do you like those P-mags for your AR(s) Andy?

You have to check out http://www.richsgunshop.com/ just off of I-5 south of Portland (Donald Exit). A True Gunsmith that has come up with a whole lot of Ruger Customizations, like the enbedded Laser sight in the tip of the forearm, the bolt carrier extensions, etc., etc. Real good guy to do business with, he'll treat you right.

I do like my P-mags. Great for drills with no bent feed lips, etc. Not as smooth as my HK mags, but good mags.

Accurized Mini-14's and Mini-30's are great, but for that cost you could buy an AR that will kill flies at 100 yards.

Seriously, consider accuracy out of the box for your rifle before you buy.

I had a Mini-14 Ranch Rifle in .223. Best it could do is 3-4" MOA & that was with a bechrest & a 8X scope.

You can also go the cheap route and buy a used, battered AK-47.

100x more reliable and more accurate as long as you put on a longer stock. Main problem with AK's accuracy is the dinky little stock made for 13 year old conscripts. A longer stock fixes that. Plus with ANY AK variant ('cept the MAK-90) the world is awash in spare parts and you can switch out the trigger groups, sight blocks, muzzle breaks, furniture, sights, side rail scope mounts, guts, gas piston, springs, sear, etc etc etc. Any way you wish for only a few measly bucks.

You can even rivet on a side rail scope mount and add red-dots, night scopes and laser sights.

All you need to look at is barrel condition and major damage to the receiver. Anything else can be found online or at the Puyallup gunshow for cheap.

$250 vs $400 for a Mini-30 or $1000+ for the AR.

Plus you can treat it like complete schit and it will still work just fine.
