I recently sold my big Northwest Jet in pursuit of a smaller lighter fishing platform. The big boat was great for whitewater, but a bugger to backtroll with. I really want to find a preowned 18ft. Aluminum river boat with a Merc Sportjet. Unless someone can talk me into an outboard jet...honestly i don't know much about the Sportjet, but they are gaining favor here in Idaho. Any leads would be appreciated.

Go talk to Joey Yauhn in Orofino ID ( On the right side of the highway just befor the Riverside Motel). He can build you a custom sled(open platform) with outboard drive train for less than buying a used alumaweld Super Vee LT style with coming gunnel etc. He can build a sled that is identical (real close) and locks on a drift like alumaweld. i think he calls this one the Flatliner...many options and a great guy. Once you get used to fishing with an outboard (with tiller, no center console etc) you'll be glad to have the space back that a sport Jet robs you of. You can run all over the boat chasen a big fish and not have to worry about abstacles etc. He can get a heck of a deal on motors from Steves Marine in Oregon. Only draw back is when you're fishing Pink House in November and it's fricken freezen rain and sheets of ice the size of your boat are floaten by...bit harder to warm up w/o the wind break of a windshield. You'll get used to it and be happier you got the open fish platform. Trust me...

Zrods.
