As we approach Memorial Day, I would like to take this opporunity to thank the veterans - our mothers/fathers, husbands/wives & sons/daughters - for their service and sacrifice. Please take a moment to thank them and remember them in your own way. As for me, I will hoist a cold one to remember their service. My sincere thanks to you all.

Amen, bro. Well put. It's good to remember what this holiday is all about. I will also hoist a cold one and salute the vets that have helped make this country what it is. Peace

As the daughter of a Naval War Vet, I'd like to thank ya, too Micro. And anyone else that truly realizes what this holiday really means & doesn't just think of it as just another free day off from work.
Wednesday (the real Memorial Day) our family is starting a new tradition of planting a tree in honor of the men & women who protected our freedom.

Young Trout Master,

I don't think you were in my Navy... probably because I was in the landlubber Navy and spent time on a couple of islands for extended periods of time with no women, lots of alcohol and jillions of stinking gooney birds.

What I will do on Memorial Day is tie a small flag on the tip of my rod and hopefully lots of fish will wave the flag.

irreverently yours,

the zen wasn't with me

I was in the Navy from 1977 to 1981. I was a snipe. Do you know what that is? I enjoyed the time I spent in the service. Have fun this weekend, I get off work around noon today. laugh

My time was from 1968 to 1973.

One of the best things the Navy did for me was station me in upper Maryland for 3 years. I found out just how fun shad fishing was and the crappie fishing in the spring was second to none.

Snipe? That's a small waterbird that goes "awk..awk.. awk" as it flies off in a low, weaving path. I shoot at them with my 12 guage and hit most of them. If they're flying high overhead.. I missed most of them.

Yeah.. I do remember what "snipes" were. Red stripes is the key.

I had a trip of 5 minutes to get from where I lived to one of my fishing spots in Maryland. After I moved to a different town I had a spot I could walk to.

Trout fishing wasn't too hot there as the close-by streams were "put and take" fisheries and the trout keyed on "velveeta cheese balls" as it was close to the hatchery food. I once caught an eel on a cheese ball.

The "Dark Side" almost had me as I embraced their ways, but luckily I moved out here to Washington and re-discovered the "Way of the Fly".

signed,

Luke

I too was on the dark side, Last summer I took my girl friend and her daughters fishing. I couldnt even cast the stupid spinning rod. My girl friend could ,she baited the hook and everything. I kept hearing a voice, and i picked up my light sword er I mean my fly rod and I started fly fishing the shallows. Caught fish and so did they.Man I get shivers when I think about it. I'm never going back.
