This site lets you make decisions on a more detailed level. Try it. Its interesting. I can find no way to balance the budget that seems politically realistic.

That was interesting, but it didn't let me lay anyone off. So it felt a little slanted. I was ready to swing the hatchet on a bunch of gov't jobs, but there wasn't really anywhere to do that in the choices. Other than reducing troops, which I did.

I think that in most cases when you cut a departmens budget by any significnat amount you do cause job losses. So you probably did cut some jobs.

Too bad it wouldn't let you reduce defence spending nearly as much as what is needed other that hosing disabled vets and taking a couple troops out of our debacle in Asia Minor.

A retired state employee once told me how to balance the budget. She called it a desk audit. Unannounced you go desk to desk requiring employees to provide their job description and the work or project they are working on.

She said it is amazing over the years how positions become institutionalized and entirely process orientated and can be done away with little drop in overall productivity. It is the union contract and the system they work in that stops the issue from being resolved, not the employees. Cut 20% on any department but allow employee input to guide the removal of non essential services NOT MIDDLE OR UPPER MANAGEMENT and you will be amazed at the outcome.

I got it down to 60%, but not until 2020, so I failed. The assessment did say that I had likely managed to avoid a complete fiscal crisis, however, so I guess it wasn't all bad.

I got it down to 36% this time, but there is going to be a lot of unhappy people. Might even cause a riot or two.
