Howdy!!
Have you ever fished off the shore for the cutties when they come shallow? My grandpa Skip (Skip Desautel) went up there I think in mid-late may, he said that the fishing was very productive for BIG FISH, he used a Muddler Minnow and also Wooly Buggers with a wrap or 2 of orange on the back, he would croush down and cast in front of the fish as they swam down the bank and for no reason one would just come out of the school and hammer it, his partner caught one that was near 10lbs!! We went down there and didnt see a darn thing so we went off down to the Net Pens over at Rufus Woods and became Powerbait plunkers rather than fly fishers!! rolleyes

These are those Lahontan Cuts, right? wooly buggers, choronomids, even a black leadhead jig with black yarn has worked for me in both Lenore and Grimes lake. basically anything that looked like a leach was a good producer. Andy

Right Matt: the cutts can be caught off shore at times with leech (egg sucking leech is a winner),but you hafta know the best areas to do that and hit it just right when the BIG ones are on the spawn. Otherwise you will get only small fish offshore. Spoons off shore will also work during the spawn as they anger the big bucks.
But the fishing for Lahontins can be very good outside of the spawn by getting out into a little deeper water as I suggested. Even during the spawn I can outfish shorebound fishermen about 3 to 1 and get bigger fish on average too.
And as far as fall fishing goes, you'll get only small fish fishing from shore.
Next time take a floattube and try it,You'll see what I mean. Besides,it's more fun to be pulled around the lake with a 5-10# Lahontin for a motor. cool

Well I'm going back over to eastern washington next weekend and staying for 2 weeks, maybe I could go back down there with my float tube!! But its quiet a drive (I stay on Twin Lakes in ferry county), even if we don't catch the cutts we can still go plunk some powerbait hehehe!! laugh laugh
