That said I am a Nam vet, my Dad WW11, but the ones we forget is Korea. That bloody war was the meanest SOB since the Civil War. Before TV media and not big enough to get up in the nations face. A lot of people died on both sides in a meat grinder that politicians wrangled over. A uncle who was a DI in the Marines said that if Ike had not been president it would have been worse as he hated war like nothing. Fairly common thing with those who have to send others to their death.

Anyway for me a Namy to the Korean Vets..........one hell of a job guys ( and gals ) we don't forget.

Thank you to all vets, my grandfather was in Army 96th infantry division in WWII and fought at Leyte and Okinawa.

Yup Thanks to all the older guys and one young man I just met, guess he saw some stuff that a small town boy didn't need to see. He's healing slow, missing some buddies but he's going to be alright..

This has been said before and I'll say it again....

"Because you can read, thank a teacher.
Because it's English, thank a soldier (airman, marine)."

Thank you veterans. Grandfather served in the Army, stationed in France WW1; Father served in the Navy WW2, buried at Tahoma Nat'l; Uncle died at Guadacanal, buried at Arlington, still have the letter he wrote to my grandfather telling him how excited he was to be going into the service, still have the "Regret to inform" letter the government sent; Father in law fought at Guadacanal, he came home with malaria. They all paid a price for the freedoms my family enjoys today. Thanks to all who have served...you deserve to be recognized everyday, not just on Veteran's Day.

Of all the things I have had to be thankful for throughout my life, never having fought in a war has been right near the top of that list since I visited the landing sites in Normandy at age 21. The images of the massive graveyards is forever burnt into my memory. I remember getting off the bus that took us there and looking to my right to see white Crosses and Stars of David as far as I could see. Out in the distance, there was a gazebo-like structure that I assumed to be the end of the graveyard. I walked out to it, reading some of the names on the graves as I went, and I noted that almost all the lifespans were less than 20 years. Upon arriving at the memorial structure, I went inside and read the inscriptions, looked at the murals, etc., and then walked out to the other side. When I saw another sea of gravestones just as vast as the one I had just walked through on the other side, the gravity of the whole thing sunk in. That was, by far, the most humbling experience of my young life.

I have the utmost respect and admiration for our veterans. My next door neighbor is a Vietnam vet. Every year, on Veterans' Day, I cook him the dinner of his choice and deliver it with hand-made cards from my kids as my way of saying "Thanks." To those of you on this board who have served our country in the most honorable of all ways, thank you too. Sorry it's a day late....
