Hello fellow anglers,
My name is Marty Borboa and I'm new to this board. I live in San Diego,CA but my son and son-in-law are in Oak Harbor,WA. They don't have their computer up and running so I'm running questions for them. I'm looking forward to visiting Washington and maybe wetting a line sometime during Christmas. My son, Marty Jr, was interested in the Samish River and what might be active this time of year. Scott, my son-in-law, is on active duty with the Navy and loves all types of fishing. He's from Pennsylvania. Any information would be greatly appreciated. If anyone there would like info from San Diego I fish both fresh water and salt and can answer most questions. Hope to hear from you. Tight lines and Merry Christmas, Marty B.

Welcome to the lakes section of the forum. Glad to have you with us. Regarding the Samish river, this time of year I think all that would be available is steelhead, but I'm not real familar with the river. You might want to post on the river forum as well. Good luck!

I don't usually fish Lake Miramar for bass simply because it's too clear - like glass. There are some huge bass in there though. Maybe a few around 20 lbs or so for sure. Lake Poway produces big bass as does Sutherland Lake. Many of the bass will range from 8 - 17 lbs. The reason they get so big is the warm water and the planted trout. These guys literally chase them around in the winter, often times following a hooked trout right to your boat or float-tube. The "Castaic Trout Lures" work well during the winter while trout are being planted as do white jigs. Last week several Largemouth bass around 8 -14 lbs were caught on the east side of Lake Poway using swimbaits. These are the serious bassers 'cuz the lures cost $30 bucks apiece. Too rich for my blood. Man would I cry if I lost one on a sunken tree. Tight lines and good fishing!

where is poway? my grandma lives very close to mission bay and my aunt lives right down the street from miramar in scripps ranch. i hooked about a 3lb bass in there once but lost it and had a cat take my live shiner and almost rip it out of the boat. and how is it in the spring i might be down for my aunts wedding and was wondering what might work well on poway or miramar or sutherland.
thanks
Tyler
