Was wondering if anyone has had any luck on the green for steelhead? Saw a few taken at Kanaskat a few weeks back and my buddies dad landed one today below FG Park. We fished the Black Diamond Bridge holes today. What a muddy &%$#en hike that was but the holes looked perfect. Threw everything but rocks in with no takers. Are the bigger numbers mid river? Anyone?

I saw half a dozen steelies being carried out at Kanaskat Palmer. That was it. Pretty slow day.

I've been seeing and reading alot about jig color. And purple seems to be steelhead candie for jiggers and the fly guys. Anyone else have extra ordinary luck on purple? Maribou or hardbody, big small??? The only colors i've had luck on are orange and orange/black but hooked a steelhead today on orange/green. Anyone willing to give up some info???

I find pink and pink/white is what works for me. I think that I will go out tomorrow. But I'm going to fish the little streams. Pilchuck, Sultan or the Wallace. If you go to the Sky and start out at Cracker bar you run into to many other people. I really don't like crowds. Jim S. smile

FFF: Purple is a great color for summer steelhead, either buy itself or with some black mixed in. It can also be good in gin-clear water in March and April. In summertime conditions, I like small rabbit fur jigs; Silent Approach makes some good ones.

For winter steelies -- especially in December and January -- I've had better luck with pink and pink/white marabou. Again, Silent Approach is good place to get 'em, as is Rainbow Jigs. Both have websites.

That's been my experience. Good luck to you.

I've also had luck with the smaller chenille bodied (or krystal flash) with stubby yarn tails. The one's I've found at the store (GI Joes in this case) are called 'Ultra Jigs'. I've noticed the quality is looking a bit shabby this year, but they should still work. My buddy and I have had our best luck with solid black with white jig head and a pink body with white tail and jighead.

Today I hooked (and lost) one using blue and white marabou.

I think the best thing is to just put on a jig that you know 'should work', and concentrate on a natural drift with little or no drag.

Also, some jigs work really well tipped with a plastic worm tail, sand shrip tail, or prawn meat.

The Green is loaded with steelhead right now. I hooked 3 today and landed 2 of them. Last Thursday i got a nice 9-11lb Nate and that wednesday i also hooked up. Plus the numerous fish i've seen taken by the Keepers. I think that long spurt of rain flooded the river with fish. If you havn't gone.....GO!!!
