What's it take to hook-up with one of these "bad boys"? From the shows I've seen ( R. Graybill ) looks like 10-20 lakers to a king, is that about the right ratio? Or are thier different ways to set-up off the downriggers that will increase your chances. Maybe fishing different spots? Whats the size of an avg. king run? Thank's laugh

Hi Chrome,
When I was out with Anton (Darrell and Dad's Guide Service) he gave a similar ratio. He told me they were becoming more and more hard to find. (meanwhile the laker population is very healthy). I can't remember all the particulars but if you go to the 2001 reports for lake Chelan I have a report from the trip I took. I seem to recall that he said your best bet is to fish for them suspended and with flasher/hoochie combo. You can e-mail him about it, he's very easy going and would be happy to share his expertise. His link is on the Chelan Lake reports section.
Good luck, I plan on hitting the lake yearly, we had a blast!

Mike, talked to him yesterday at the show. real nice guy. Looking over his fishing log he said the ratio was more like 250 to 1!! The lakers are able to spawn in the deep water of the lake and are doing fine. Meanwhile the king's are going down the tubes. Good for the lake trout, at least thier is still a large fish to target at the lake.

Did Anton talk about the WDFW proposal to take the limits off lakers? He is none too happy about it. Seems DFW wants to reintroduce the native cutthroat and get rid of the lakers. So they want to trade 35 lb trophy lakers for 16" cutts. Incredible. I asked Anton to write up an article about the issue and I will post it to the site. Maybe after the Show he'll have time to do this. DFW must be nuts...
The chinook are a rare breed on that lake I guess.
