As with every Christmas Eve we attend Mass as a family and then go to the movies. This year was Tron. Good god dont waste your money on that one. I would rather have stayed home and watched Sasquatch Mountain on SYFY again, then pay to see Tron. B- movie.

Saw "True Grit." Liked it better than "No Country for Old Men." Good Coen Bros western. Recommend.

The original was released in 1969. It must have been fairly forgetable, because I've forgotten it. The critics seem partial to the recent release. As one stated, "The Dude" trumps "The Duke."

Nah. The original "True Grit." You must have forgotten it too. Thought BD was responding to my thread jacking post, Pilgrim.

i'm still waiting patiently for a movie to be maid of the video game Dragon's Lair... for some of the old foeggy codgers who don't recall the 60s. well DL was the 1st 50cent video game in the 80s. it was designed to use a laser disc. Dirk the Daring was the character who had to work his way through a very dangerous castle trying to rescue the smoken hot princess being held captive the dreaded dragon. this would make for a great movie with todays technology.

Saw TRON opening night with our entire company and many spouses. Yes we're video games folks, so clearly pre-disposed to like this movie.

But here's the deal -- this movie is a FANBOY movie. You have to be a fan of Tron (the original) to enjoy it. It's not nearly as ground breaking as the original, but on the other hand it's an impossible task to make a good sequel of that movie in many ways. And they nearly did so...

It's beautiful (we saw @ Cinerama in 3D) and clearly was made by a bunch of people who loved the original.

It's far from an iconic film -- but it's a pleasant ride if you enjoy the grid.

I have a philosophical issue with movie theaters, so haven't been to one in two or three years. I can almost see paying $9 a ticket to see a first run movie, but not when I get there, and they insult me and waste my time by first playing 20 minutes worth of f'n TV commercials. 20 minutes of TV commercials are bad enough on TV at home, but I can accept that as the price of admission since I'm not on pay-per-view for conventional network programming. Plus I have the mute button and can take bathroom or kitchen breaks during commercials. But paying $9 and having no escape from their f'n commercials in the theater is just as bad as spending good money to buy legible clothing and paying to advertise somebody's products.

Young people don't seem to have any issue with this economic disadvantage, so forming a theater boycott to have commercials removed from movie programming looks like a real long shot. Meanwhile, I continue to vote with my wallet and wait until movies are available through Netflix.

Saw Black Swan with the wife last night. No real flashy effects, minimal CGI. Very good movie.

$5.50 for matinees, not much in the way of advertising, the folks are polite and the seats are comfortable. An oldie but goodie, it will remind you of your youth.

Sorry, no 3D available to give you a splitting headache.

Rose and her hubby run a great little theater. Hope she's still around.

I completely agree with Salmo. I remember when going to the movies was "fun" but it takes an extraordinary movie to me to think that the overall experience was even close to worth it.

I remember the first time I saw the commercials at the start of the the movie. I just about exploded.

Thanks Aunty. But it's more about the advertising than the money. If they want to run TV commercials at the movie theater, then charge me $2.50 for admission. Or if the commercials are necessary to "hold down" the price of admission, get rid of the commercials and raise the ticket price by a buck or two. I just hate spending good money to watch commercials that I can see on TV for the price of wasting my time at home.

AP, I thought about trying to organize an ad hoc revolt last time at the theater, but looking around at the audience suggested that I was the only one ready to kill a manager for not turning off the commercials. F'n sheeple.
