Big Bad VooDoo Daddy there are a few small lakes near our home town but a small boat is needed
The first one that I can think of is Bass lake it has bass, perch, bluegill, crappie and cuttthroat trout and catfish.Troll the center of the lake for the trout and fish the edges for the others. smile

Do you live right in town or outside of town. If outside where at?
I grew up in Enumclaw. Know it quite well.

Is Bass lake the small lake off of Black Diamond highway? I've driven by it a few times and always wondered if there were fish in it. I never saw anyone on the lake, and wasn't sure if it was even open.

There used to be a boat launch owned by the DF&W. Not sure if it's still there or not.
There's no bank access at all. You either launch a boat or you don't fish. Even at the boat launch there's just enough room for a boat to snake through the cattails.

I've never fished, knew alot of people that did. Never did talk to anyone that did any good.

Launch is on the east side of the lake, off Hwy. 169. I've dumped my 14' boat in there a number of times. It's a narrow, mucky launch, but doable. The fish I caught were small to middle sized spiny rays-- bass, bluegill(sunfish), and crappies. Plastic worms and jigs thrown around the weedbeds worked for me. It's a peat bottom lake, and the water isn't very clear. Supposedly, there's some large cutthroat and catfish in the lake, but I've never connected with any of them.

I've been to bass lake. It's best early in the season so pretty soon ill head out there. Deep Lake is also alright. Are lake's Sawyer, Ravensdale, Wilderness, Walker, or Retreat any good? Or are there any other good lakes around here?

lake sawyer has been good to me in the winter for perch and in the summer for bass...there are a couple of spots across from the launch that hold perch in the winter, during summer the islands are always a great early spot for bass

ive never fished it for trout but caught a few before incidentally. ive seen trollers come in with some nice trout so i know they are in there. ive heard there are smallmouth in there but i have only caught largemouth, anyone ever caught a smallie out of sawyer??

this lake also has a large population of snails and crayfish, they make for the best baits for spiny ray in this lake.

i was at walker lake for the first time this past summer, it is a long drive up winding residential roads to get there, with parking for only 2 or 3 vehicles at the launch, this lake is very small and i didnt bring my boat, its only a few acres and very shallow. you could wade the whole shoreline and cover the lake just as well as with a boat. i tried spinners and microjigs and only caught small pumpkinseed, there are a ton of them in there and i think they are all stunted.

KSR- There are, (or use to be) huge smallies in Sawyer !! I grew up on it and have fished it for many years !! Slow presentations of plastics, or dragging weed lines early in the morning, seem to be the most effective that I have found. My biggest one on that lake was 6 3/4 lb. about 8 years ago. This big female fell to a 6 inch plastic worm. Motor oil color was the colr of choice. Good luck !! smile

Lake Sawyer is my favorite lake. I didnt have very good sucess there last year but it does have lots of Smallies. Id say about 4 years ago I caught mostly largemouths with my 7 inch red shad powerworms. But now all I usually see is Smallmouths. Its a great lake, big enough for bass boats, 250 acres. Ive also seen a boat with 3 guys drinking, and a kid, they had 18 trout, all of them about 2 lbs. All caught in the same spot. I fished the same spot a week later and could only get 2 of them. God on 4 lb line I fought those fish for 10 minutes each. After that the spot didnt produce anymore. Great lake though.

Wilderness mostly has trout, rainbows and kokonees I think. It used to have Largemouth, but I think they killed them all off when they started planting trout in it.

Actually, Wilderness still has some HUGE (maybe 5-8 lbs) largemouth bass in it. Would see them occasionally cruising underneath the logs on the far shore as I was fishing for rainbows. Although I've never seen a large one caught, I've caught a few little guys trolling woolly buggers when fishing for 'bows.

I know the little stream, Jenkins, I think, used to have huge bass and rainbows in it before they built houses on the old golf course back in the early 90's. I used to catch some big trout out of there when I was a kid.
