My wife and I are taking off a week at the end of the month for a little retreat in Port Townsend. She is going to be taking care of work and wandering shops, and I have been given license to head out fishing as much as I want.

With spring in the air, this boy's mind turns toward trout in the lakes, and I am wondering what lakes you all might recommend.

I will be fly fishing, and be either in a canoe, or float tube.

Check the regs, but I think only Leland and Gibbs are open in the area. Leland is kind of slow right now. It depends a lot on planters and is fished quite a bit. Gibbs I haven't fished but hope to do so soon.

Kitsap Lake by Bremerton has some potential, but it's not really in the area.

If I were you, I'd probably think about doing some beach fishing for searuns. You can check with the guys at PT Angler (ptangler.com, I believe) for more specifics.

Wish I could offer more advice, but we don't have many lakes in the immediate area that are open now. The closest, besides Gibbs, are some of the lakes in the Shelton area or, like I said, Kitsap Lake.

Good luck,

Keith
