I was sitting here brushing my golden retriever and I noticed his hair could make excellent wings for some dry flies. His hair is naturally water repellent. He has a good range of hair color, ranging from white to a light brown. Hmmm. Anyone else out there use unusual tying materials?

Well i tied up some jigs/flies for Mackinaw using a standard size bandaid for the body. On a 2/0 hook, it worked great. I just threaded back over it to color it. A whole bandaid sounds like alot but these are big flies for big fish. And building the body with silk is a waste. I also used wheat and barley beards on a few flies that i tied up to look similar to a muddler, but since it was organic it only lasted a season, but it worked.

Among a porqupines quills are some that extend out into a hairlike
bristle rather than a point. Excellent for adult Mayfly tails. You can find
color range from white to tan to near black with a little searching.
I get mind off plentifull roadkill over here in porky country.
