Put the canoe in at 5:15 this evening and caught 9 fish to 12", missing several others--quite a few chironomids coming off, and little to no wind to compete with. Nymph casings everywhere. 37 degrees on the surface. Fun stuff, though thinking of fishnfella's posts made me feel guilty that I was giving these poor lil cutts fat lips with my barbless #16 parachute adams. Anyone know of any good hookless fly patterns?

Actually saw a couple of tourists hatch about 5:45. Pulled into a campsite and started up with that "WOOOO-HOOOO!" call they always make. Left their beverage casings by the boat launch. Must be getting on toward Spring...

Maybe you could cut the hook off so you could have the satisfaction of seeing the fish take the fly but not have to worry about hurting the little bugger. smile

Ahhhhhh, springtime on Orcas.

Favorite tourist hatch I saw was on the road out to Olga, just past the park gates on the Olga side, right by the flower stand.

Came around the corner and increased my speed to the legal limit, when what should I see but 30 bicyclists having lunch, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD!

As I came to a stop after a four wheel drift, with some smoke, I calmly asked if they had left there brains in Anacortes.

I feel your pain!

One of my favorite tourist hatches happens in the summer at Golden Gardens park, Shilshole. It's the one where people park their cars in the trailer parking lot to watch the view of the boaters looking for a place to park because the stalls are all taken up by tourists. Usually they park in front of the sign that says "trailer parking only". rolleyes That's about the time I have to go over to them and explaine what the sign means.

Yeah--up at Mountain lake on those sunny weekend days the hikers park right in front of the boat ramp at the edge of the lake...wish there was a sign there!
