You can put lipstick on a pig, and it's still an ugly ol pig.

Leavenworth is barely worth stopping at on the way to somewhere else IMO. Boring city with fake charm.

The best thing about leavenworth is it's proximity to the river and the candy shop on the way out of town..

The best part about this Leavenworth thread is Sol Duc's new avatar, and his fitting custom title...

FTW!

During the summer they have those inner-tube float shuttles going all day on the river downstream of town. That looks pretty fun with the right group of friends, and the right amount of beer.

The town itself is just kinda lame, but I would be lying if I said I have never pushed a stroller through there.

Best thing about "The Barbarian Village" was when we could still run jets on the river. We'd springer fish in the AM, then go to town and drink lunch and watch the tourists. The rafters really did like getting washed with the jet pump though!!!! smile

You are so right Art, my girlfriend loves the place and I cant stand it. I take her there about twice a year. Its a good investment though, I use it as justification for me taking 6-10 hunting/fishing trips each year without her.

Leavenworth is the perfect place to score points with the sweetie and to get in some good steelhead fishing. I drop my wife at the hotel at about 12:00 and head on out to the Wenatchee. Year before last was really good with lots of fish around. One afternoon I landed three steelhead on flies while the wife shopped. What's better that that?

I landed this one on the Wenatchee last Oct.

BTW my guide friend says they ar having 8-12 fish days right now. Yeah they are dark, but they fight pretty well and its a really fun river to fish. In September the fish are pretty nice looking and really put on a show in the warm water.

Women do love that place.
I ended up doing the Aqualung thing....grabbed a newspaper and found a park bench.

If you really like that sort of thing, then you must go to Martha's Vineyard or better yet, Nantucket. Here, benches are conveniently placed outside the shops.
No steelhead but there are stripas around.

Whatever you do, please, never hold/carry the purse in public or risk permanent Man Card revocation.

Martha's Vineyard is WAY nicer than Leavenworth. When we were there it was blowing a steady 40-50mph wind. The Nantucket route was cancelled for the day.

talking your old lady into cross country skiing is not gay its the best thing ever. For one, they arent spending your money shopping, and number two, they are wearing hot ass spandex skiing pants all day. Its a win win situation when in Leavenworth.

Cross country skiing seems gay to Irie and others because it burns more calories in one hour than the lard assed critics burn in a week, maybe two. Cross country skiing burns 500 calories an hour easily. Irie burns 500 calories a month tipping beers and typing [censored] on the internet.

Brewer thanks, I guess, for your opinion that I am in a postion to judge gayness. I realy don't think I am as I have zero expience with the gay world. You however seem to be an expert, so I defer to you judgment.

hardly a zing, more of a attempt to reply. but i respect your rules of volley dave, unlike others who prefer to be brosque.

dave just messn with those who write book(s) on bobber fishen. i hardly in any way mentioned your name.

wink

back on subject, leanworth is strictly a devised commercial ploy for women.

Yep, but . . . . its one of the few places you can take a nonfishing partner, and make them very happy, while you go enjoy a day of steelheading. And as I mentioned, recnetly the steelheading has been excellent. That's my idea of a win win.

Off topic, but I don't doubt for an instant that Brewer is imminently successful in his goal.

And the Wenatchee can be an enjoyable river to fish, provided you have studded sole wading boots or stream cleats. The Wenatchee is slicker than deer guts on a doorknob. Looks like you found it in prime shape Dave. It was higher than I like for good fly fishing almost the entire fall season.
