Well, half right smile
Here's a shot of the primary tree used for this project.

Another shot of the portable saw mill site (worker must be on a lunch break)

Here is the "Dam" new construction

Some of the on-site erosion. Wiped out a half dozen spruce trees along the bank. The "project" included the harvest of numerous small wild cherry trees as well.

Permit? Permit? We don't need no stinkin' permit! smile

Spring in the air? Is the beaver, the animal type, the NW answer to the groundhog? If a beaver starts a new damn while it is still winter, does that mean spring will be early?

In my neighborhood, neither groundhogs nor beaver herald the approach of Spring....it is the dreaded mole! Dang one of those can dig a lot of mounds/tunnel in one night!

Had that problem a couple weeks ago.

Went into replace my old rusty scissor trap and walk out with a pack of gas bombs.

No more mole.

It's essentially a smoke bomb the size of your middle finger, you gently scoop out the dirt so the hole's nice & open, you light the sucker and right as it starts to go you slip it down the hole and gently cover the hole with dirt so it traps the smoke inside, burns up the oxygen in the burrow and fills the whole thing with poison smoke and fumes.

Here's some:
http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/giant-...f691c26dd2d760c

I used one at each end of the burrow just for schits and giggles. I'm kinda hoping I'll get another mole now so I can use the other two.

Cheap Bleach works good on moles to, just pour a cup into each mound and bury the hole. Won't hurt the grass either.

Here's the best way to deal with moles. The 12 gauge mole gun! Set it at the end of his run and wait for the boom! Once it goes off everyone runs out of the house to see the dead mole and high five! (He dies from the concussion, no blood and guts.)

I used to have the boy bury the dog crap in the holes and they would run back to the neighbors, never did have much of a problem after that. Guess they don't like dog crap!

I have to get some of these mole bombs now. The little bastards made a line of about 16 mounds along my curb in 2 days.

When I lived in the country my neighbor and I decided to go mole hunting in his back yard with his 12 ga. We were going to wait for the dirt to start moving on one of the mounds and then kill via concussion.

We sat down to wait. He had a shotgun in his lap and we had a cooler between the 2 of us. Eventually, he tipped over in his chair and I told him he should probably unload his gun.

Sounds like a typical "mole hunt."

I have put smoke bombs in their holes, and that makes them leave for a while, but they always come back.

A gardening site (I think it was Ed Hume Seeds) has a non-lethal remedy that is said to be effective and isn't terribly harmful to anything. If I recall, it was basically a small amount of dish soap mixed in with water and distributed across the affected area. Nowhere near as devious (fun) as some of the other methods being described, but I think I will give this a try this spring.

I saw a TV show once about a couple of old guys who converted an old street sweeper into a non-lethal prairedog removel machine. Just had a big hose that went into a transparent tube about 12" in diameter. Then they would shove it into the mound and crank her up and they would stand around drinking coffee counting PD's shooting through the tube into the back of the truck.
