Hey, does anyone have a surefire tactic for those elusive browns, i have tried just about everything to hook one but nada,I live close to a great lake that has some big honking browns in it, the last record size was caught by a bass fisherman, on a rapala tossed in the lillypads, let me know if you have had any luck.

I have done well for Browns, on Blue Lake (Grant), pulling plugs on the surface close to shore early in the morning.

Like Carl, I'd suggest VERY early in the morning - B4 sunrise but add evening - after dark.

For brownies, I'd starting fishing at about the time the sun hits the horizon in the evening. The darker, the better. I use either a minnow fly pattern or a black leech on a slow sink/intermediate line. Depending on the lake, the Browns will often cruise the shallows after dark. Strip the fly in quickly using about 3-4" strips. And hang on . . .

Bring a flashlight as its pretty tough to tie a knot in the dark.

Depending on the time of year and water temp. I either use an uncle wes with a gold blade and green beads or a black blade and green beads, troll them right on the edge of the weed bed's or close to shore. For sure early or late in the day have proven to be the best over all time's. But this is the method that work's for me.
