Pretty powerful stuff. Glad to have watched it. Hope I never have to go to war.

I am a few chapters into the book by Junger after my son read it. Good book (thanks Richard).
I thought it was nice seeing how much those guys cared for each other. I wish we didn't have to send them there. Only one friend of mine is still over there.

Horse Soldiers is another good read.. . .details the initial push into Afghanistan by a group of SF guys. . . . Another that I found interesting although not as good was Not a Good Day to DIe, covering operation Anaconda, also in Afghanistan several years later.
I found the difference in techniques and attitudes between the two operations interesting and a bit frustrating. . .the original guys had the formula down pretty good, then as usual politics and egos got in the way of the work that needed to happen on the ground. .. . . IMHO

I've been wanting to watch that, I'll definately have to check it out. Lately I've been really into books, documentaries and other material on the U.S. military operations in Afghan and Iraq. You'll have to read Not a Good Day to Die: The Untold Story of Operation Anaconda by Sean Nayler. The authors a Stars and Stripes reporter who's been in the Army forever so it's an awesome insiders account. Co-worker just got back from a year of Officers training for the Reserves and this was required reading. I'll have to check out the movie and some of these books.

Thanks Dave. It should not be restrained.
If I could ask one favor, it would be that the title on the thread be corrected, as the firebase was named in honor of one of the soldiers in the program who died in a firefight. thanks.

Makes much better sense with the typo fixed Andy. . . ..
BB, I like Horse Soldiers better. . . .the other had a bit to much backstory on all the Hi end Brass for me. .. .I liked the story of the action on the ground. . . guess that's cause I was/am a grunt at heart .. .. . .
