I don't beleive this subject can be discussed enough, I've seen alot of fisherie's destroyed a at least a great deal of damage done by this careless practice. I think it's everybody's duty to turn in these violater's of our lake's. The amount of money it take's to straighten the lake's balnce out is a crime itself. And usually not alway's but usually it's illegal stocking of Bass into Trout Lake's. Now don't get me wrong I have nothing against Bass fishing I'm just tired of people trying to create their own fishery and the heck with the rest of us. I'm not sure what the penelty is if caught, but obviously it's not strict enough. Anyone else have any thought's on this subject? Maybe Stacey has some input for us.

Is there illegal stocking problem? I don't get around that much, and I have not fished this state for the better part of my life.
Althought all the lakes I fish (low land) are pretty much A mixed bag.

If it is a problem I have the solution!!! wink

Most low land lake's are a mixed bag, it's the higher lake's that seem to have a problem. Ive come across a few myself and several in Oregon. In some lake's the introduction of Bass can be devastating to the trout population. But I do like your solution.

I only know of one lake that some people did that to. They caught some bass out of one lake to put in another that they said didn't have any bass left in it. The little lake that they did that to was Martha lake just north of Lake Cassidy.

Why is it that the state will clean out a lake and then just plant trout in it. And after a few years there are Bass,Perch, Blue Gill and others in it. Like Silver Lake in Everett. They poisoned that lake off regularly and still it has Bass in it. How do they get there. Doesn't the rotone(sp)work.

I caught a bunch of perch and blue-gill in pass lake a few years back. I will admit it was better than catching nothing but I think that they could quickly cause major problems in one of the finer C&R lakes around.

It costs a lot of money to rehabilitate a lake.

There are a lot of lakes that we don't want warmwater fish in. Now, I am a total warmwater fish advocate, BUT, we do have lakes that are meant to be trout only. This is, in part, due to the fact that we will use the lake itself to raise the trout. In Region 5 we call these fingerling waters. Mineral Lake, Swift Reservoir, Northwestern Reservoir are just a couple of lakes that we close early in the fall in order to plant fingerlings and allow the lake to become a fingerling nursery.

When people decide that there should be bass, pike or other warmwater fish in these lakes it messes with the management plans that we have carefully and specificaly set up for these waters.

So we have to go in an rehab a lake. Lowland lakes are as big a problem as high lakes. We have people that plant sturgeon everywhere with little care that sturgeon can and do carry fish diseases that can affect other fish. Just because a fish doesn't look sick, does not mean it is not a carrier that can affect a lake population.

I think if people want certain species in a lake, they should contact their local bio and TALK to them about it. Find out what the management issues are. There may be VERY good reasons as to why certain species should not be stocked. Or, in some cases, it may turn out that there is room for the species wanted and we can make something work out. Like Kress like. We put channel catfish in there four years ago and it has worked out great.

Bottom line is DON'T STOCK FISH IN LAKES. You wouldn't want to get caught or turned it doing it anyway. It wouldn't be pretty.
