The sheep game got me thinking about reaction time and old western gun fighters. I ran across this. I have never seen anything like it. I can't think of a good enough word to desribe it. http://www.wimp.com/fastestgunman/

Very impressive. Muscle memory is an incredible thing? How is it possible? Hour, upon hour, upon hour of practice. I knew a few folks that trained with this fellow and they said he would spend hours of every day at the range. Super fast in the exchange, but deadly accurate as well. Good combo. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hgdq1FBYTUE

I never ceased to be amazed at how many people can latch on to something that so many find trivial and devote a significant portion of their lives to it. Everywhere you look and most anything you see, someone has decided to make that thing their thing and get really frickin good at it, or at least really into it.
I am all for mastery of something, but one would hope that the thing has some functional purpose. No offense to you Dungeons and Dragons fans.

Bob is an exhibition shooter. If I could get paid to shoot all day, like he does, I would.

Hell, if you could get away with it, I am sure you would do it for free ...shoot all day that is.

I'm not necessarily enamored by quick draw shooters. Bob Munden is good, but he busts those balloons with unburnt specks of black powder, so he is effectively shooting a short barreled black powder shotgun. Bob does play the odds on his trick shots. Tom Knapp is more up my alley, as he busts targets with lead.
At one time, before I got married and had kids, I would shoot upwards of 2-3,000 round per month. We were loading 2-300,000 rounds per month in our commercal loading business. It was essentially free, and I needed to test it. I'm lucky if I get a chance to shoot 500 rounds every 3 months any more. I try to shoot a minimum of 50 rounds of pistol (.22, .45 and .40) & 50 rounds rifle (pellet gun or .22, .223, 6.8SPC & 7.62x39) every month or so.
Finally ordered a CMMG .22LR conversion for my AR's, so my rifle round count should go up a lot.

Bob is an exhibition shooter. I tried being an exhibition shooter one time. Didn't go well; something about indecent exposure and lewd conduct laws.

I never paid much attention to the Black Rifle but it truly is the present day musket. A citizen can literally build one from scratch. I'm working on my first, a middy. The hardest part is receiving parts deliveries spousally undetected On the quick draw stuff....I'd want to invest in some Kevlar footwear.

Yeah...THAT.... My old shooting buddy watched a Cowboy Action Shooting clip somewhere and decided he was going to become Quickdraw McGraw himself. After his third "quick draw" with his Ruger P9 out of his Uncle Mike's nylon holster, I watched the dirt next to my right foot explode. Dumbazz came less than one inch from taking my right foot off. Let's just say I made a point after that to stand directly behind him when he was on the firing line.

Many years ago, in two seperate instances, marines gaurding the gates at Brementon Navel Base shot themselves playing quick draw - one in the thigh, one in the foot. For awhile they were not allowed to have live ammo.

Even in slow motion, I still couldn't follow it.
Very impressive.
