Not surprised at all to see Oregon ripping UCLA...they were freakin on FIRE last night against ASU. We really didnt play bad just ran into a really hot team coming from nowhere...interesting to see the teams that only have one shot at the dance step up when it matters and the "already in" teams dumping a steamer on the court.

Dawgs Coogs III should be a solid game...

Well, apparently we didn't need to kick Klay in the balls...but I still wish someone would have wink

Not to get too far ahead of myself, but I see the Dawgs in the Pac-10 Championship game on Saturday...playing Arizona, again.

Should be a hella game.

Not a bad season, Coogfans...but I think you'll be enjoying the NIT this year frown

Best game I have watched this year. Clay Thompson did everything he could to try and get a win. Unfortunately it was lost at the start of the second half. Good luck to the Huskies. They should be home from the big tourney in time to watch the Cougs in the NIT. smile

That bugs me about the tourney, too...if USC or UCLA isn't playing, then the Staples Center is only 1/3 full. They'd fill the damn thing daily even if it was in Spokane.

Put it in Vegas...more people would be likely to travel, and there are always a shitton of tourists around who'd buy a ticket.

You could catch a flight there for well under $100 most the time, too...and get a hotel for under $100...and eat cheap...and not have to be in Los Angeles, which is worth a lot right there.

Incredible individual performance was trumped by a very good team effort. When MBA went to the bench in foul trouble, just five minutes into the game, I thought a Husky loss was all but inevitable. As Klay Thompson drained shot after shot, I wondered how any opponent could keep up with the offensive firepower he was displaying. What a "barn-burner" it turned out to be; edge of the chair entertainment 'til the final buzzer. It had to be ten times more exciting for the UW/WSU fans who were in that arena. Congrats to both teams for their effort. Hope both teams make the post season. Good to see Ross and Wilcox getting tourney experience prior to the "Big Dance".

Todd,
Vegas is a great idea. The West Coast conference championship game between Gonzaga and St Marys had near 7,200 in attendance. If small schools can get those type of crowds, the Pac 12 should be able to at least make the arena look full.
Seeing all those empty seats at the Staple Center on TV doesn't look good for the conference from a national standpoint.

It was weird seeing all those empty seats last night. I looked for Chuck but couldn't find him.
I remember going to first round ncaa games when I first moved here at the Dome. As I recall they packed the place.
I guess it's not the same....Pac 10 vs. Dance.
It was a great game last night. I'm glad I watched it.

Great game to watch! Was fun to watch Klay play and interesting to see how Klay handled his situation.
Thomas played his ass off. I wish Romar could give him one or two breathers throughout the contest...I expect many of his jumpers to fall short this evening due to tired legs.

Vegas? Sounds good in theory but just imagine the amount and variety of temptations for the young kids...I'm sure coaches are more than a little reluctant to have their team spend 3 or 4 nights in Vegas. The NCAA and Vegas are kinda like oil and water...they don't mix too well.

The West Coast Conference has their tourney in Vegas and as far as I know, no kids got into trouble. LA doesn't support the Pac 10 tourney at all. The UW/WSU game has been the best attended so far. Numbers will probably go up for the weekend but it is ridiculous to see all those empty seats on tv. My guess as to why the tourney is in LA is because USC and UCLA want it there. Whatever the Cal schools want they get.

Hollywood has made movies about teams and seasons that were less exciting than this year's Huskies. Only a few days ago Coach Romar was quoted as saying this season has been his most difficult. That had to make what happened over the last three days all the sweeter. Too bad they don't pick the league's top player and all PAC-10 teams AFTER the league tournament. Glad you got to see three great games, and one of the all time best performances by a Husky player ever, Chuck.

Nice win for the Dawgs but its all about The Dance...Dawgs probably escaped the dreaded 8/9 seed and should probably land around 6/7 which gives them a chance for the Sweet 16. Another big benefit is they might get to stay in the West Bracket instead of a cross country trip...GO PAC 10!

CBS cut away from the post game celebration so quickly, there was no time for interviews with players or comments from the coaches. Here's the post game conference with Sean Miller and Derrick Williams, followed by Lorenzo Romar, IT, MBA and Terrence Ross.

Both Husky Pac 10 Tourney games were very exciting to watch, though I only got to watch the second half in both games. That last shot by IT was absolutely clutch. How many guys were wondering when he was going to start his drive? I wonder how many times as a kid or even later he went through that scenario in his mind and practiced it on the court?

A couple of areas of improvement they need to make for The Dance.

Improve free throw shooting.

Cut back on turnovers. The guards at times get a little sloopy with handling the ball. I saw too many steals by the opposing defense.

Need more paint scoring by the posts. They have a pretty decent inside game with IT drive penetrating at the top of the key and dishing to MBA . Shooting 3's is streaky and can be risky if they don't fall. Need to have a good solid inside game when they aren't falling so you can still score points and keep the pressure on.

Should be fun.

They played three games DaveD... you certainly got your money's worth Chuck!

IT just flat out played his butt off...he is one of the toughest kids I've ever seen play. I swear he musta hit the deck 30 times in the tourney.

Low post play? We basically have none. MBA is just a wuss....I've never seen a guy so big play so small. A team with any size and good low post play will beat UW...book it.

The guy who impressed me the most was Ross...he really played well. Wilcox is probably a better pure shooter, but Ross brings more overall game on the court.

Now we sit and wait and see if UW gets rewarded or screwed. I think they played their way into at least a 7 seed and earned the right to stay out west...but you never know.

There are times when MBA actually plays some decent offense. He has some decent moves...just need to be more consistent and not immediately go 3-balling as soon once they miss down low.

I think we got blessed by getting Georgia as our first opponent...they are not a #10, they should be a 13 or 14...and then got screwed by having to play UNC in the second round, since I think they have a legit shot to go all the way...oh, well...could be worse, at least we're there and have a better than even chance to win a game.

A month ago if someone told me the PAC-10 was going to have four teams, and that WSU wouldn't be one of them, I would have said they were crazy...and while I would have liked to see WSU make the tourney, the fact of the matter is, they Cooged it, big time. Too many losses, and too many crappy losses down the home stretch...they're a better team than that.

Fish on...

Well, looks like we got screwed...again. Thanks committee, for making us fly all the way to Charlotte to play UNC on their home away from home court! UNC and Duke are the poster teams for the NCAA and it drives me effn nuts. Like the 1st round game against Georgia and UNC really doesn't scare me that much, I just hate WHERE we have to play them.

In the ACC Tourney UNC won their first game on a last second shot after being down by 15+ points in the second half. Had to come back from way down in their second game too. Then Duke kicked their butts today. I think UNC is a perfect matchup for UW and therefore I like their chances of making the Sweet 16.

UGA is close to home, but they aren't that good. UNC has also shown weakness. Good matchups in a bad location for UW.

Could be worse.

Well said Ike............Just read this little tidbit, "North Carolina’s NCAA tournament record in North Carolina is 26-1. In Charlotte, the record is 7-0.

Sort of makes you wonder if a Pac-10 team has ever played in their home state not to mention 27 times slap

Love March Maddness -
Given the so-called weakness of western basketball I agree surprising to see 4 Pac-10 teams in the "dance".

That said as a group they have recieved some favorable draws and I expect them to do well (much better than their seeds would indicate). I expect the 4 to get at least 6 wins and would not be all that surprised to see 8 or more. Throw in Gonzaga and SDU the western will be well represented in the sweet sixteen.

As far as the Huskies decent matchups but a tough location. I agree with the others Georgia is a favorable match up and if the Huskies have their head in the game that should be a win. If they make it pass that first game they will likely be a handful for North Carolina.

As we know the Dawgs don't do well in front of hostile crowds but on the flip side they are a very difficult team to prepare for with a short turn around. Have not seen any teams with a deeper more athletic roster than UW. Couple that with an reasonably experienced team that is as prepared as any of Romar's team - can play a reasonable zone to go with their tough man to man and for the first time they seem willing to apply that full court pressure more frequently. Lots of looks to prepare for and at least a half dozen guys that go off for big nights.

Like the Huskies chances to make the sweet sixteen and if they get on that roll (especially after the Pac-10 tournament) they will be a scary matchup for nearly anyone.

Last time I looked the Huskies are up against Georgia in NC.
Get a hold of yourselves and root for the Northwest team will ya ?!
Coach Romar has gumption....I like that guy.

The consolation games.....who really cares about those.
Work harder next year and get to the big dance.
That is all.

Cougs should have got the play in bid to the NCAA tourney. USC wasted their opportunity; might have fared better in the NIT. Coach Kevin O'Neill's lapse in judgement and subsequent suspension during the PAC-10 tournament may have been a continuing distraction:

http://www.pointguardu.com/content/kevin-o-neill-drunken-altercation-arizona-fans-659/

O'Neill was reinstated in time to coach the Trojans to a season ending loss. USC finished with a record of 19 wins vs 15 losses, not counting the Arizona booster beatdown. Hey, at least the guy wasn't a marshmallow salesman!

You got to be old and experienced to know where that last comment came from...

Glad to see the Zags doing well...looks like they'll pull out an upset. The one thing I don't like about basketball is how in a close game with all the fouls and time outs, the last 2 minutes can take a half hour to finish.
