Hey Easy, did insurance cover that or did you have to foot the bill yourself? Nice rig BTW!

Sushi - you can still sucker me into going fishing and showing you how to catch Lk. WA trout. Just let me know.

Camo - I took the initiative to buy the truck on my own. Any kind of insurance pay out is still a couple of weeks away for me. When and if I get a settlement I will put the money towards the truck.

Enjoy the shine now, thats the color of my wifes 99 Blazer,I wash it and 2 minutes later it looks dirty again :p Honestly... I wish my truck was that color,I bought a green one just like yours...but you never notice how many of that color are out there till you buy one. It seems like every other one I see is green. frown

You'll love the power in the new Vortec engines,my brother had a 92 Chev, just like the one they stole from you. It had the 350, and my 98 has the Vortec 350.He wanted to race,so we did...ONCE. My truck ate his for lunch! cool

Is your new truck under warranty? If it's not I'd drain and flush the GM Dex-Cool out and put in the green stuff. The only problems I've had with my two rigs have been water pumps. My truck's went out at 53K and my wifes Blazer at 49K. If you look on the I-Net you'll find all sorts of complaints with the Dex_Cool sh!t.

It seems that if the overflow resovoir gets low,and air gets in the cooling system the Dex-Cool antifreeze will start to turn to gel! confused

I went down to the dealer and they knew exactly what I was refering to when I asked about the problems GM was having. There is no recall on it, but GM recognizes there is a problem as there is at least four service bulletins on it.

Having read thru the Bulletins from GM...They now reccomend replacing the coolant at 30 months or 30K miles, Instead of 60 months or 150K confused ,Whats the point of running that crap if you dont get the extended life with it? It's also supposed to be better for the water pumps...good luck getting me to believe that!

Other than the water pumps,I've had great luck with every Chevy I've ever had. If Your new truck last's nearly as long as your last one you'll be one happy dude smile

HBP, funny you should mention coolant. The guys at Jet, who I know and trust personally, just replaced the water pump, as well as a $1000 worth of other stuff, before they sold the truck to me. The truck has 55K miles on her.

Thanks for the heads up! I will have to consult with my tech on the inside to see if we can't get that Dex Cool stuff out of her. cool

I cannot see the picture of your truck for some reason...could be because my work computer won't let it open for some reason. I gather it is a chevy from everyones posts. Chevy's RULE!! I have a 2001 Silverado, white...it is awsome!!

Talking about the dex cool stuff...I heard that if you replace it and put the green stuff in, it can cause problems because the Vortec Engine is Aluminum. I would talk to someone before I did that.

Congrats on ur new truck!! smile

Thanks for the advice Fishin Chick. I am getting mixed reviews about Dex Cool though. Some people I talk to in person say leave it in, some say take it out. Since the truck is fairly new I think I will leave it in and keep any eye on the coolant level.

Easy, I would also recommend leaving it in but you do need to change coolant out every 30k or 1-1.5 years.

if you ever change types of coolant it is critical to flush out the old before adding the new as they are incompatible.

dont think being aluminum matters what kind of coolant. many new cars have aluminum engines and alot still run green.

Vortec engines aluminum? On 98' and 99' trucks, the block isn't,the heads aren't,the only part of the Vortec engines that is aluminum is the intake manifold. The green coolant is perfectly fine for all chevy engines. Texaco and GM went together to try and find a more environmentaly friendly coolant. They figured that if it lasts longer it's better for the enviroment.

You can mix the two types of coolant with no ill effects but you lose the long life of the Dex-Cool. The coolant then is to be treated like the standard green stuff.

I agree with the need to a complete flush if you do the switch. In one of the service bulletins I got from GM it goes into very detailed directions on how to do the flush.

If I owned a vehicle still under any warranty from GM I would stay with the Dex-cool of course.

My dad and brother have had Chevy trucks for a long time, the water pump in my brothers truck lasted until 189,000 miles. My dads work truck has over 150,000 miles on it, and his own truck has over 125,000 miles, both with the original water pumps and green coolant from the factory.

I'm convinced that with what I've read from GM and having to replace a water pump on a 98' and 99' Chev truck at just 50,000 miles ea, that the Dex-cool is the reason. I hope you all have great luck with it,but for me it's the green coolant from now on!
