in this state at least. It's Omak Lake in Northeastern Washington. This lake should be
a Mecca for flyfishermen searching for BIIIIIIIG Lahontin Cutts. I just spent two Hot
days out there and saw only a couple trollers fishing.
I caught 25-30 cutts Friday afternoon from 14" to 8-9 pounds. One big bugger I
never saw was into my backing 3 times before the hook pulled loose. The second
day (Saturday) was slower, but I got 12-15 in 6 hours up to around 3 1/2# in blistering heat.
The lake is about 6 miles long and from 3/4 mile to 1 1/2 miles wide. There are 3 excellent
bays for flyfishing the big cutts and hundreds of acres of trolling water.

Now the kicker......I fish alone there most days even during the height of the hatches, in
fact I've only ever seen another flyfisherman on the lake a couple times. Excellent Chironomids,
outstanding mayfly hatches, good leech fishing, Hoppers and Muddler minnows in summer,
and the second generation chronies and mayflies repeat strongly for great fall fishing,

Sure they aren't flashy like bows, but the big ones will make your reel sing and tow you
around the lake. Sure it's a long drive with no camping at the lake. Sure there's an
Indian access permit to buy....$35 per year, but they have 1 day,3 day and 1 week cheaper.

But the rewards for all that are outstanding. Pristine water, great scenery, and No Crowds.
For cripes sakes, do some fishin out there.....I'm getting lonely.
There, that's the last hotspot you'll ever get outa me!!!!

laugh

Is that the only one. If I fished lakes that would be the one I would hit but since I don't I won't. I usually like to fish running water(skinny water).

Went this morning to the N/Fork of the Stilly. Boy,talk about high water. Just can't seem to think about any thing else so I won't. laugh laugh :p

On the west side of the HUMP the most underfished lake has to be Lake WA.

FF - Thanks for the info. You have been too quiet, so I figured you were out on the water. Where else would you be!

Someone ask about the regs on Omak Lake:
Open year around.
Catch and release barbless hook lures or flies from March 1 to May 31.
After that all methods except bait with a 3 fish daily limit over 14" (they taste yucky)!
Creel reports (catch information) required after fishing.
No camping or fires on tribal land.
Fishing generally starts in March though often it's too windy.
Decent hatches fo ther fly fishermen start in April.

Hi, I've been there and the problem I had was there were too many creeps coming over to my rig while I was fishing and checking it out. Too many broken beer bottles and stuff to make me relax and enjoy fishing. Had to keep one eye on my rig and the other trying to steer. Maybe I was too worried. It's a big lake and I think it's going to take some time to learn it. I see wolley buggers don't work there. Sounds like it could be a fishing bonanza. Maybe another time.

Curly, You must have tooooo fancy a rig!! Seriously I've fished there for 6 years now
and never had a problem with my rig being examined. I leave my rig unlocked with very little in it AND I don't park at Beer Can Beach area. Lots of Omak teenagers use that for a drinking spot.

Beer Can area is too deep for really great flyfishing anyhow. The best areas to hit for
flyfishing are the two large bays in the center east side(a long pull in a tube) and the
very South end.
Oh, and buggers and leeches work very well early and late in the flyishing season.
Muddlers on a fast sink can be dynomite at times with the big ones, make sure your pole is
secure and HANG ON!
