This looks like it couild get really ugly. What a tragedy, on top of all their other problems. I fear this will be a crippling blow to the nuclear power industry worldwide. http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/japa...wq2V_story.html

Been watching the situation closely due to my sister and brother-in-law being over there. Luckily they were able to get on a train to Osaka this morning and get outta Dodge. They'll probably fly straight to Seattle from there. Will be glad to give them a big hug. My sis said she did a phone interview with the producer of the Today show. May be on tomorrow. They were scheduled to do a sit down with Ann Curry to tell their story but left Tokyo before doing that. Lots of props to my brother-in-law for taking good care of my baby sis. After the quake he ran 5 miles in his business suit to go home and find her. An ex-Seahawk fullback he probably looked like Godzilla with the eye of the Tiger spinting down the sidewalk in a pair of Ferragamos

Brief summation: Schit's probably worse than they're telling us, since that's the track record that every single gubmint in the world has built.
Fish on...

I got the feeling beachcombing is gonna get real strange on Washington's beaches in the upcoming months.

Beachcombing ... Thats an interesting thought. We have seen the wind diagrams for potential radiation exposure. Does someone have a link to the currents that might show when tsunami debris will begin to wash up on our shores? What would you look for? Little wooden dolls and shoes?

Toyotas, refrigerators, front porches, yen, tennis shoes like the ones that washed up on Canadian beaches in recent years, ANYTHING that floats. In the past I used to find light bulbs with Japanese writing on them; now one might find the light bulb, the lighting fixture, and the house to which it was attached. To be sure, there will be plenty of scavengers and salvagers picking up these artifacts of the Japanese tragedy. Hopefully, they will reflect on the human toll behind every beachcombing discovery they make.

Hopefully, they will reflect on the human toll behind every beachcombing discovery they make. Are you trying to say beachcombing is immoral? I've beachcombed since I was a youngster. It's still a favorite pastime of mine. Most of the stuff I've found has been discarded off the deck of a boat (someone else's trash), lost off a fishing line or net, and occasionally, swept off a ship in a storm. The debris that may wash up on our beaches from Japan will have quite a different origin and a history of tragedy attached to it. So, Irie, what I was trying to say in my previous post was...when you find that waterlogged, barnacle encrusted Ken Doll and you're all excited, take a moment to contemplate the catastrophe that started this piece of flotsam on its journey.
