I was out at the Potholes this Friday and Saturday fishing. The water is still high, and the knats will drive you nuts! (Bring a mesh head mask to keep the annoying little buggers out of your face) I was targeting Walleye with a Double Whammy and a full night crawler. Fishing was great on the dam side of Goose Island and in shallow water just past the state park. Others did well near Crab Creek. I got a nice 26" 6-lb'er and my limit of keepers. A lot of small mouth were hitting the line too. One guy had a monster 10-lb'er at the cleaning station.

The trout fishermen were doing well, and I heard that the bass fishing was picking up too. Good times and I hope to get back there soon!

Power,
Thanks for the report. When you say shallow water just past the state park do you mean toward Frenchman's Wasteway (north) or south of the park. I'm headed that way over the 4th. Four full days of fishin', skiin', drinkin'.....you get the picture. Thanks.

North of the State Park. Fishing was best in 10' - 20' of water.

Seriously try and find one of those net mesh masks that slip over your ballcap to keep knats out of your face. There are some mesquitoes too, but when you get into the gnats they drive you nuts!

Good luck and have fun. It will be packed over there.

I don't have plans for the 4th yet, so I will post if I go over there. Maybe we can throw back a few beers!

I hear ya' on the gnats,I was there 2 weeks ago,and repellent didn't even phase em'. They were so bad at a couple times I had to hold my breath so not to suck in a mouthfull! frown my grandparents had a spot at the resort for about25 yrs,I've probably been there 250 times and have never seen anything near this bad.
