I just added this little gem to my collection. I think it will be great summer run reel. It is light weight 8.7 ounces, casts smooth as butter, and will hold 175 yards of 12 lb mono. I think my other small reels will be staying home this summer. What’s more fun than getting new tackle?

ALMOST nothing is better than new tackle, Dave.

I recently bought a Diawa Tierra and considering the price point it is amazing. I haven't bought casting reels in fifteen years since my Calcuttas were seemingly working fine. This Tierra casts way better and costs half as much.

I haven't seen the Revo but I hear good things.

Revo series is bomb-ass.

Diawa Lunas are good too.

Either are better than the more pricey Calcuttas I have.

I have an Inshore.
It's similar in capacity to a Curado 200 size which I think is perfect steelhead size.
I'm surprised Inshore doesn't get more publicity.

The only thing I can think of that is more fun than getting new tackle is catching some fish with that new tackle.

Every time I get a new reel, I just end up disappointed.... AGAIN.

Got another levelwind failure to take care of on a "new" ABU 7000.

Time to put my old school Bantams back into service alongside my 40+ yr old ABU's. Old, not nearly as smooth as all the new-fangeld stuff, but a reliable and steady workhorses that never fail when something big is pulling on the other end.

I picked up a Revo recently and was pretty impressed with it also. Could not have said it better "Smooth as butter".

Enjoy!

I'm curious...you must have some idea why you are experiencing the failures. What do you think is the weak link? Not being at all critical, just don't want to have a known defect ruin my day(s).

Revo Toro.... supposed 23# drag and levelwind stripped during on the dock testing. Sent back to factory for repair

Shimano Tekota... stripped 2 sets of drags and levelwinds. They strip out again, I am DONE!

Shimano Calcutta TE 700 stripped out the drag, levelwind, and line alarm. Back to the factory for repair. New drag with only one season of use is already starting to develop erratic slippage.

ABU 7000's (Chinese made).... drags will not loosen when star wheel backed off until 10-20 yds of line are stripped off. Levelwind failure on a reel with less than 2 full seasons. Impending roller bearing failure on another. Guess what? No replacement roller bearing available.... gotta buy the entire sideplate as the roller bearing is permanently housed in the side plate. WTF!

High praise for old school ABU's and Bantams.... take a lickin' and keep on tickin' .... so sad to lose one of my 40+ yr veterans to the season's best coho last year.

Just type Abu Revo Inshore into Google and you should find sites that compare prices.

Best price I saw was an outfit called LG Outdoors at $172.00

I put my Inshore on my light salt king jigging rod. Looking forward to that this summer. Sportco recently closed out there Toro 61 lefties so I picked up a pair of those for 120 apiece. My thought was that using those on a downrigger rod is like taking a super model out to eat at a waffle house, but some spoon fisherman told me "she'll eat",

+1 a Lamiglas X89 MCT for me.

Have 1 king, 4 coho & a mess of rockfish on the Inshore so far. I have 2 spools for mine, keep 30/PP Red on #1 for the salt, & whatever mono I want @ the moment on #2

Fished it on some OP h2o just chucking hardware. It works fine w/ 1/2 oz spoons & #4 Vibrex or Pentac's.

Simply a GREAT DRAG on this reel.

(funny story on the drag, had it sucked down a little too tight & a stud coho slammed me right @ the boat on the reel-in. With the no stretch PP & a short line it literally ripped the rod out of my hands & into the salt, a sweet net save averted disaster !!)

I don't want to freak anybody out with this question but.....

Would this reel be a good crossover between light tackle salmon/steelhead and some bass fishing? I still am looking for a levelwind that will toss a Yamasenko 4".

Someone revoke this man's fly card!

My Revo is the Toro so I'd say it is a little oversized for the bass part. Not sure on the Inshore model? Curado would certainly work.

Sounds like you need some hardcore Alan Tani tuning.
Why not send the next prospect to Alan and let him do his thing before it sees a reel seat ?

I see the Inshore as "steelhead size" which is a little bigger than bass size and a little smaller than salmon size.
Similar to Curado 200 size.

Would be fine for ditch pickles....it has a disengaging line guide (unlike Toro) which I think is a good thing for repetitive casting action.

So yeah, it's the do-all size if there is such a thing.
