Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) has introduced a bill that would allow the President to imprison an unlimited number of American citizens (as well as foreigners) indefinitely without trial. Known as The Enemy Belligerent Interrogation, Detention, and Prosecution Act of 2010, or S. 3081, the bill authorizes the President to deny a detainee a trial by jury simply by designating that person an “enemy belligerent.” The bill, which has eight cosponsors, explicitly names U.S. citizens as among those who can be detained indefinitely without trial: An individual, including a citizen of the United States, determined to be an unprivileged enemy belligerent ... may be detained without criminal charges and without trial for the duration of hostilities against the United States or its coalition partners in which the individual has engaged, or which the individual has purposely and materially supported, consistent with the law of war and any authorization for the use of military force provided by Congress pertaining to such hostilities. Not too stoked on the idea that we continually try to avoid the Geneva Conventions by calling anyone we want to something other than a Prisoner of War...I mean, it's the "War on Terrah", right? Who do you take prisoner during a war?
Apparently they are "enemy combatants", or "enemy belligerents"...
Is this the "Combat on Terrah"? The "Belligerent on Terrah"?
Or the War on Terrah?
What are we doing, and who are we doing it to?
Fish on...

"Waterboarding is not the only Bush-era practice that is undergoing a reevaluation. The Obama administration vowed to close the military prison at Guantanamo. Yet, over two years into the Obama presidency, it still exists. Candidate Obama inveighed against targeted assassinations. And yet, President Obama has conducted them with relish, the execution of Bin Laden just being the latest example.
It all seems to be a case of rhetoric colliding with reality. Or perhaps it is an example of Obama growing in office. Whatever the case, it looks like waterboarding is a form a torture that is against American values, unless it leads to a victory in the War on Terror that benefits the president's poll numbers. Such are the ironies of politics."
You guys are confusing me...... I thought you were against waterboarding.....like McCain....who is also against waterboarding.
It seems the President can't make up his mind.....
will the real waterboarders please stand up??

McCain is a full on embedded political douchebag. Something we agree on. +2 might as well add BigJim to the douchebag list now too.... I was commenting on him talking about torture and its ineffectiveness, as his experiences. If that makes me a douchebag then thank you. If you are pertaining it to something else then you sir are the douchebag. Personally i am not a fan of George Bush era [censored], not a fan of John McCain. As far as me being a douchebag for other reasons, I can take that.

Good pitch by McCain, but at odds with the many examples of his douchebaggery, as illustrated by RVW in this thread. Leaves me wondering if McCain actually knows how he really feels. I was serious when I said the whole thing is confusing to me. As I recall, McCain said, on his way back to his cell immediately following a torturing while a POW, to another prisoner, "They broke me." If that's true, then he knows that torture produces. Now he seems to think it doesn't?? Am I missing something? As far as McCain goes, to me he outshines anyone here in my book. He didn't leave the POW camp when he could have and was tortured because of it. That goes a long fkn ways in my book. Like a lot of war vets, I cut them a lot of slack......even if I don't agree with them all the time. Unlike some, I'll look them in the eyes, shake their hand, and say, "Thanks" everytime.
