I'm always surprised reading the comments. Too many people have their heads in the sand. Too many people make excuses for the criminals.

That's good. They threatened, he protected himself and provided aid. Hopefully that will hold up and the homeowner won't be indicted. I would shoot a thief in the back if I could get away with it. Well, maybe I'd make him dance a little

Although as a pacifist I personally would let somebody rob me rather than kill them. I don't own anything somebody can steal worth killing over. But, as a citizen and valued member of the community, I won't question the judgement of the homeowner. Ya, right...:)

While I feel bad for the homeowner having to deal with this, I feel like one of his shots was a bit off the mark. He could have fired a third shot and not felt like he needed to provide any aid. Anyway, a near perfect ending to a night of home burglary. But it was a detached garage. So, it's not really their actual property that I'm bugrlarizering.

I'm guessing that the homeowner will be OK on this.....since there is only one of the perps that can testify. Two against one could have been sticky.

I agree, both are good shoots. . . . .
I feel bad for the dogs, it is really not their fault, it is the owners. . . ..

From a dog's perspective, one is either dominant or submissive. After a number of different breeds, I now have a rescued female pit and we savvy the concept. There is no doubt in her mind that this family is dominant over her. She's cool with that and has demonstrated so many times. She runs, off lead, behind my mountain bike and doesn't focus on anything else except following me, passing horses, people, dogs, et al without losing that singular focus. She's been attacked by other dogs a couple of times (I didn't see them first and the owners were not nearby), and she has returned to me to remedy the matter to our satisfaction-- sometimes with a dog firmly attached to her. The choice to walk in the world with a stalwart companion, whether a Pomeranian or a pit, comes with the requisite responsibilities.
That being said, a gun in the capable hands of someone makes them dominant over anyone/anything with bad intent. When choices are made to unwittingly question same, they oft write about such events in the local newspaper...
... with many unwittingly choosing to question same in the attendant comments section of the newspaper article....

Autopsy results are out on the dead thief. Shot in the back - there could be issues - and rightfully so.

Shot him in the front, the back, the side, wherever. It doesn't change that the burglar was in the shooter's garage where he sure as heck doesn't belong at 4:30 AM or any other time of the day without an invitation. The homeowner shot and killed a burglar, improving society by one less burglar. How can this be anything but a positive influence in society?
Burglars who aren't killed are rewarded by our justice system with its revolving door system, putting them back on the streets, often in less than 24 hours. Most burglaries are committed by repeat offenders. They repeat because even when caught, there is no disincentive to stop burglarizing. The only action I'm aware of that stops burglars from burglarizing is the infrequent action of the victim killing the burglar. Being an open-minded person, if there is any alternative action that actually stops burglars from continuing to burglarize, and being an ongoing plague on society, I'll listen. Meanwhile I'm delighted when I learn there is one less burglar in our midst.
