Generally speaking, it has had an impact on my lifestyle. I joined a vanpool for the commute to and from work, and that's proved to be a great savings, if mostly in terms of wear and tear on my vehicles. I've also been working with the wife to ensure that we get the most out of our trips to Olympia (about 30 miles each way) so we will take a minimal number of trips.

As regards fishing, for the most part, I haven't thought twice because of gas prices when invited to take a great fishing trip (though I have noticed the consequences afterwards). On the other hand, it's apparently been at least in the back of my mind on a day trip basis. While I used to drive all over the west side of the state fishing this time of year (sometimes all the way to the east), I have been doing my fishing much closer to home this year, by comparison. The bright side of this, however, is that I will be forced to explore more of my local waters to seek out some cool zipperlips. The searching can be crappy, but the rewards have created a lot of my favorite fishing memories.

Gas prices haven't affected me yet. I'm able to ride the bus to school from Spokane to Cheney for free so that's a no brainer. When I'm back in PA for the summer I'll likely be riding my bike to work so no hurt there either. The only change up might be in my fishing where I'll more likely camp out for a couple days instead of driving back and forth. I wonder how it would go catching the transit bus from the Elwha to Forks with all my fishing crap? Packing a cooler full of fish might be frowned upon rofl

Good truck Jerry, I am driving my 96 Ranger as much as possible when I don't need to drive the F-150 for work or towing the boat. 18mpg beats 12mpg for sure. It has 220k on it (new motor last year) and still going strong.

Gas prices have affected me in that clients are a bit tighter on their budgets for most projects these days. Part of which is them getting multiple bids, which costs all of us in the business a bit more cause we don't get all of them. . .. . . .more driving without getting paid. . . .

I also try to group my material runs better. . .has actually made me a bit more efficient which is a plus.

Fuel prices not bothering me much at all. My biodiesel cost me right at $1.00 per gallon to make. My wife drives the Excursion 7.3l, 44 gallon tank which averages about 14 MPG in town and 16-18 on HWY. So anywhere from 600-750 miles per tank. Only cost $44 per fillup plus about 2 hours a week to make the biodiesel. NOT BAD! I drive a 96 Ford Explorer. Just turned 257,000 miles, I have put all but the first 32,000 on the car. Not bad either! Gets around 17 per gallon. This car is on it's last leg! As soon as it dies(which sometimes I think it never will) I will be replacing it with a diesel mercedes probably? Then I will be totally non relient on any for of foreign oil. I will then be saving enough money each month to make most peoples head spin!

Like Stam wrote, it costs me more to drive around. My kids are out of college, so I don't worry too much about the price of gas. However I've always lacked any affinity for supporting Arab Sheik's lavish lifestyle, so I choose to drive cars that get decent fuel economy. Just turned 150K miles on the 2000 Outback. It totes my fishing and camping gear, tows my boat as needed. I'm driving it to Montana in July and probably Canada in the fall, whatever the cost is. If gas becomes offensively expensive, I'll just ride my bike to work and reserve the car for fishing trips. I have principles and priorities.

I was up at browns camp (coast range)atv riding this weekend, and by the looks of it, gas prices havent seemed to affect the off roaders much. Every nook and cranny of that place was full of every type of off roader, and tent, trailer, etc imaginable. No parking at Rogers camp, or day use area. It appeared that at least 3/4 of the people were from washington state judging by the license plates. by far the most wash. people i have ever seen up there. Washington doesnt have good ATV areas? (only been to capital myself).

It is really a big increase in Gas. It really affect me and my family. My most of the cars are running on a gas and it is going to be difficult for me to maintain a financial balance at home. Need to find a solution over it.

The goal in retirement was to have a place that was close to most everywhere we needed to go. Even the hunting and fishing can be done in a 10 to 15 mile range. So far we are weathering the prices just fine.

I was up in Canada last week. It was a 1.27 per litre on average in Alberta, more in B.C., but the real crime is a 1/2 rack of Kokanee is around $28.

The Kokanee price includes the taxes for the free health care.

I typicallly agree with you, but not on this . I love kokanee.

JG

Maybe they can afford the beer since they dont have to pay $1,000 a month for health insurance.
