Well, we had some cuts in our broodstock program. mad

But there will still be some nice ones planted. They are going to be a bit later than last year so they will probably not be planted out until December (last year we began in mid-November).

As soon as they start, I will post the numbers and to which lakes they are going too.

Hi Stace, Nice to have you back. While were on the subject of big fish I have a few questions. As you know with the State funding being so low and all aid to County Parks being cut. I had made a suggestion of supplementing some Triploids 3 times a year to my home lake to draw more interest in the fisherie. My question is who do I contact to see if that's possible and how do we go about doing it. I'm sure there has to be someone at the State level to check this situation out. This info would be of great help to me. Thanks in advance. laugh

Best thing to do is start at your local level. Contact your local regional office - not sure where you are located! - and ask to speak with the District Fish Bio and then find out what his/her plans are for triploids in your area.

The initial idea behind the triploids was to stock them right around opening day as a way of generating interest in license sales.

Pass your idea on and see if they can work with you! I don't know how other regions work, but that is what we ask our anglers down here to do!!

Let me know if you need any other help with that!

Thanks Stace, Actually I meant that the park would pick up the cost. This would be above and beyond what the State already plants. There concerns are how stocking these fish would affect the eco system of the lake, would there be enough feed in the lake to sustain them. But I will start at the local level. Thanks for your help.

ohhhhh....

well in that case it would be a matter of stocking issue.

Generally - in my region - we don't stock our lakes with fish from programs outside of our own stocking programs.

I approve all the permits for stocking fish into private ponds (trout, warmwater and grass carp) but we don't do stocking permits for people to plant public waters unless it is with grass carp.

That is not to say that the bio wouldn't be interesting in doing this - especially if it would add fish without being an extra cost to the state.

We just have never had anyone offer to plant large numbers of fish like that.

Sounds like a cool project. With it being a put and take fishery, right off I can't see where there would be a lake concern... but I don't know anything about that particular lake - so maybe it would be a problem there.

Good luck!
