Anyone here ever fish either the Falcon or Heron lakes at the base of the Potholes dam?

I've fished both of the Heron lakes and made a half-hearted attempt at fishing Falcon.

At Heron the best luck I've had is on the marshy lower lake. Almost caught the biggest trout of my career there. Missed it because I thought I was snagged on a weed.... then a washtub sized swirl let me know about the size of the fish on the other end.

The lower lake is shallow, but the small trench/channel running down it is where the fish are.

I think both sets of lakes are year round ones if anyone's interested. Falcon is for sure... but I'm not willing to bet on the Heron ones.

Haven't fished Falcon or Heron; did OK at Corral which is right off the dam by Mardon. When I fished that area a lot, I would concentrate on other lakes further down in the refuge. The largest trout I hooked was on a black leech in McMannaman (sp?). However, there are some other lakes in there that bear fishing.

The canal is good in the spring for trout, and if you follow that down past Soda into the Crescent/Long area you'll find even more trout. One lake that should be dynamite is Lower Goose. It's very clear and deep for a seep lake. It has walleyes, largemouth, panfish and because it's canal fed, trout. It was closed for part of the year because of people problems at the launch although the regs show it open now. If I were in that area in March and looking for some place out of the wind, I might pay attention to it.
Of course, that 's when lots of trout are up in the wasteways feeding. Lind Coulee wasteway would be a place to try as well or Frenchman's.
