Fishery Notice
Category(s):RECREATIONAL - Salmon
Subject:FN0711-RECREATIONAL - SALMON - Region 2 - Recreational sockeye retention in the non-tidal waters of the Fraser River
________________________________________
The current status of the Fraser River sockeye return provides for limited
recreational sockeye retention opportunities at this time in the non-tidal
waters of the Fraser River in Region 2 due to a small total allowable catch and
uncertainty in the estimated returns.

Effective one hour before sunrise Saturday, August 13, 2011 until one hour
after sunset, Monday, August 15, 2011, in those waters of the Fraser River in
Region 2 (non-tidal Fraser River) retention of sockeye is permitted with a
daily limit of two (2) per day.

The next Fraser River Panel meeting on Friday, August 12, may allow for this
fishery to be extended or an additional opportunity on the following weekend
Saturday, August 19 to Monday August 22. Any increased opportunities will be
announced by a new Fishery Notice on Friday August 12th.

The next update regarding the status of the recreational sockeye retention
fishery will be Monday, August 15, 2011 following the next Fraser River Panel
meeting.

Variation Order No. 2011-386

FOR MORE INFORMATION:

Notes:

Anglers are requested to release any hatchery marked sockeye. These fish are
hatchery raised sockeye and part of a recovery program designed to increase the
numbers of Cultus Lake sockeye.

Sport anglers and guides are reminded to label and submit heads from adipose
fin-clipped (hatchery-marked) Chinook and Coho salmon to the Salmon Head
Recovery Program. Recovery of coded-wire tags from recreational fishers
provides critical information for coast-wide stock assessment. For more
information and locations of Depots contact the Salmon Sport Head Recovery
Program at (866) 483-9994 or visit the following site: http://www.pac.dfo-

A clear cut case deserving of an exemption from the golden rule that ALL hatchery fish MUST die.

Thanks rln!
