Here's the scene:

You just got back to the house after fishing for summer run's at 4pm on a warm sunny day.

The plan is to throw a couple fillets on the grill and hang out in the backyard with your buds, just stalking smack and eating some good food.

The only thing missing is the perfect beer for this occasion.

So, what are you having?

A nut brown goes great with the slight smokiness of grilled fish.

Game Day Ice! $2.99 a half rack at Grocery Outlet. It'll make you forget all about Billy Beer and Big Flats brew. Drink enough and it'll make you forget about everything, including the fillets charcoalizing on the bbq.

That nut brown would be good, but I'd probably just have my usual: Full Sail Amber.

There's a reason I bring this up.

I just recently started having a cold one on occasion after nine years without. Been drinking Blue Moon and Hef's and those do the trick but was curious what others reach for at the backyard bbq.

I am a simple man. I don' t mind Coors and Bud Lights.

I have "Shock-Tops" in the fridge and they are okay, but I had some good beer from the brewery in Shelton. Grove Street Brewery. I like the "Bedunkle" (likely misspelled). I think they have one called "Ole Pinchfister" or something like that which is a winner too.

I have a couple of their glass growlers and I have them filled every time I go to the Skok.

Full Sail and Alaskan Amber are solid choices, but with fresh fish, I like Full Sail Pale Ale better. If you can get your hands on a real Belgian White (Blue Moon is a poor example, IMO), that would be outstanding. Lots of citrus flavor to complement your catch. I live where you live, and I know you won't find one in town, so that may be out.

If you like a nice, clean flavor, wheat beers are a good choice. I haven't had the Kona brew Abu mentioned, but I imagine it's good.

I also like RR's mention of local micro brews in growlers. I used to like Fish Tale's Mud Shark Porter that way when I worked next door to the brew pub.

When do I get to go summer run fishing? I'll bring some beer for the BBQ.

No offense but women drink that stuff with lemon. grin

Full Sail Amber Ale was my first love in craft beers.
Currently I'm on an IPA kick and it's going to be Ipswich IPA tonight as I'm in the land of Minutemen, baked beans and titles.

When I'm home it's been Rotator X-114.
Big, serious, friggin' ale right there.

Drifter's a purty good sunny day beer.

Up in Canuckland IPA has an entirely different meaning than it does in the PNW.

I plowed through about $500 worth of Keith's (about two cases at Canadian prices) and the entire concentrated hop content wouldn't even match a single bottle of PNW IPA.

Beer's gotten expensive in B.C. I hear. A friend says they smuggle beer up there and stash it before heading up on an extended fishing trip. The amount of beer savings practically pays for the trip, but then it would be a cost savings if they stayed in WA and fished. Anyway, you get the idea, Canuck beer is expensive.

$40 for a 12 pack is about right. After the first few nights we switched to liquor just for economics. Not that it helped much. I ran into some friends up there and I asked if Old Style was any good because it was comparatively cheap. He laughed at me. Between paying $1.15-$1.30/L for gas and roughly $4/L for beer, though, Canada got spendy fast.
He did turn me onto Kokanee though. Even took a tour of the brewery. Pretty smooth and crisp, and it might replace Coors Light as my hot weather/boat beer, Especially since they're selling it at Costco for $17/case.

Oh--If anyone ever get a chance to have a Beavertail, do it!

single-hop homebrew IPA
Freemont's Universale Pale Ale, dry hopped.
