After years of licensing cartoppers I finally got a bigger boat, new to boot!.

Well, a couple of days ago the form came for 2003 licensing. I got "sticker shock" looking at the amount the state wanted for this year.

Before I'd paid $6-$10 or so... this time it's $110. Thought I'd at least get a break and not have to pay yearly for the motor... just the boat....but no... the state figures that in too.

could it be that your boat is over 16 feet long? when i recently bought tabs, the lady at the desk told me that since my boat is a few inches shorter than 16 feet, that i got off "easy." i don't know the rules, but apparently the charges skyrocket over 16.

I had the same reaction. MY new boat is going to cost me $240.00 bucks plus the $51.50 for the trailer. My old boat that I still have Last year the trailer tabs were $13.50 this year $51.50. I havent received the licensing info on it yet. Then theirs my van, truck , camper. It never ends I sure hope they raise the gas tax NOT!!!!

The new boat is 18 feet. I heard under 16 didn't have to pay the excize tax.

Also it's a 2002 and the excize tax for that is $93. Yep... I heard I'm going to get whacked to the trailer tags too. I have another utility trailer for my 10' Spring Creek pram. It's a shame to pay $51 for licensing those.

Guess what with this whining about prices I must have a little Scottish in my background.
