My grandson my dog and I are just back from a two day hike to several lakes in the Olympics. Fishing was very poor but it was a great outing anyway. I dropped my camera on day one and broke the screen, as a result I had to shoot "blind". Now I see many images were also screwed up. Aparently when the screen goes some other functions go too. Anyway, here are a few shots that turned out okay.

No fish, broken camera, bone tired and really happy we went.

All the pics are great, but that first shot of Tye is incredible!

These are your "okay" shots? What do the really good ones look like?

There weren't any really good ones. There were a ton of really good scenes but I and my broken camera didn't do so well at capturing them. At least there give a flavor of how pretty it is up in the Cascades.

Nice pictures Dave. Couldn't have asked for better weather. It is nice up there. I took my son and a friend up there last year.

How did you guys do on the trails up to Deer and Bear lake? Did you do the entire hike in one day?

Besides that, screw the fishing. With scenery like that, some good hooch and a good pooch...............who needs to fish? Alright, maybe a few casts but thats it.

I hiked in there from the Snoqualmie Lake side a few times back in the 70/80's. We always camped @ the uppermost one, Bear Lake, & did quite well fishing for the rainbows there.

I remember they had the most striking purple stripe I have ever seen down the side of a lake bow. Caught quite a few 14 -17" fish, good size for a lake w/ a 4500' elevation. Must have some old Kodachrome 64 slides kicking around here someplace.

nice pics and yes the cascades are beautiful and safe.
these damn grizzly bears over here in eastern Idaho and northwest Wyoming makes hiking in the backwoods a different ball game.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Bear and Deer was an annual trip during the late 1950s and most of the 1960s. Have many wonderful memories of the area, the fishing, etc as a pre-teen and teenager. What great country to grow up in!!

How come your not old enough to be our Grandpa

The trail to Bear was hard after the ascent to Dorothy. We made it a three day trip. Day one was to our camp at inlet creek of Dorothy. Day two to Bear and Deer lakes. Day three back out. Guide book says it's an easy hike. . Not so much for an overweight old man. Hell even Tye is bushed. He has not moved fifty feet since last afternoon. He carried an eight pound pack.

I heard the same from several others. In fact, that's a big part of why we hiked into Bear. I only saw a few really small trout - I don't now what species as I could not coax them to bite. I talked to several other anglers who also had no luck. I can't believe there are too many fish in there now as we never saw a ring in a glassy surface in the three hours we were there. Or maybe we suck as anglers. Same with deer. There were a few Brookies to be had in Dorothy.

New camera on order. Pooch is good, hooch will be good. Ready to rock and roll. Kispiox here we come!
