I was told by the people at the Cascade Hideaway resort on Fish Lk that the FS is closing road 6202 that runs along the north side of the lake. The road is gated at the resort, but still open at the other end and will be till the end of the week. The reason for the closure from the gal at the resort was too much garbage and human feces was leaching into the lake. About 12 years ago the FS blocked off all the camping spots along the far side of the road with big rocks and put up no fires this side of the road. I can see the reasoning behind this with the heavy timber and fire danger. I've camped here for 20 years and before they blocked off the campsites there were dozens of people camping here every weekend. Granted it's still a mess now, but no where near the pig sty that it used to be years ago. So how hard would it be to put in pit toilets across the road from the lake??? What is a person to do with all these closures? 3 of my favorite camping areas have been blocked off and closed this past year. 2 are in the Potholes. Is there any action the average citizen can do to reverse this or we at the mercy of every budget cut and enviromentalist in the Forrest Service and Game Dept? I'm so tired of seeing road closed signs and roads gated. Does anyone know about the closure on Canal Lake in the Potholes? I was told that the cattle rancher that leases the land decided he didn't want anymore access. Isn't this all public land? Also nearby Pit Lake is still being stocked by the Game Dept. and is also shut down with no public access. Sorry about the long post, but I'm livid and sick to death of what's going on out there.

do what the board members here did awhile ago on the cowlitz... clean it up.

I've filled entire garbage bags at deep lake, and its really not a messy place at all. I just like to keep it clean and nice so i can enjoy the sight that much more.

Maybe talking to the right people about actually putting public toilets and dumpsters as well.

The way i understand it,the public lands are ours untill we abuse them with trash and such then the gov. can close them down to protect them.

Picking up trash is probably the best way to protect our rights to these lands.

Picking up other peoples trash is getting old. There should be some way to educate people on picking up their own trash. You clean up one site and then you go back later and it's dirty again. It's like a never ending battle.

I've picked up bags and bags of trash for years and yes I'm sick of it too. I walked around the woods at Fish Lk and buried all the poop and toilet paper. Now how hard is it to take 5 seconds and bury your business? It makes you wonder who these people are and what they think happens to all this toilet paper. Little elves come by with tiny shovels and take care of it...... Maybe education would help, but it seems to be people that just don't care. Closing all the access and camping areas only forces more people in to a smaller area. This is exactly what is happening in the Potholes and many other areas around the state. You can't peacefully camp there now because you have 10 other groups right next to you blasting out rap music or shooting off guns all day. I guess that's good then those areas will be trashed and eventually they will be closed too!.....I would like to know who makes these decisions and if there is any recourse or should we just let it happen? Is there a public review of closures or is it up to an individual decision? I've fished and hunted in our state for 40 years and it's getting awful frustrating to say the least.
